I have a friend that started saying some weird stuff. I asked if he listened to rogan and they said that he’s great and got defensive right away. I wonder if they ever figured out how I knew they listened to rogan or thought about it at all.

Getting defensive means they know it’s bad, but somehow still pretend to themselves it’s not?

Not always. For example, if I were “caught” eating pig meat in a Muslim country, I would probably be defensive. Without that actually meaning that I genuinely thought there were anything bad about eating pig meat.

As an analogy, you can in theory be defensive about watching Joe Rogan without genuinely thinking there is anything wrong with Joe Rogan.

A lot of people aren’t aware of most things.

It’s a little different but there’s an artist who got caught with a teenager. Sucks cuz I loved his music but when other people find out I’ve been to their shows I usually bring that part up. Most people who listen to him don’t even know about it until I tell them. He just wasn’t famous enough for it to pop in everyone’s algorithm. People rely on tiktok, reels and shorts for most of their information. If it doesn’t trend for them then they don’t know about it. They also form opinions based off of their algorithm.

It’s not everyone but a concerning amount.

I will say, though, if someone can clock that he’s a regular listener to a specific podcast after he tells them some (as he sees it) common sense opinions on everyday topics like dating, then that is worth taking note of and doing some introspection rather than getting defensive.

If someone was telling me about their Alexa spying on them, and I threw out a “Mulch the rich”, and they replied “Oh, you listen to the MBMBaM podcast?” I would think “Shit, am I being brainwashed without realizing it? That podcast isn’t even political…”

        Shame!

It is most likely that they really don’t know and are just being defensive like most people get when someone points out they are wrong.

Nah, getting defensive means they ran out of talking points they’ve been fed and don’t know how to think for themselves.

It’s like someone who plays EA sports game by themselves on easy and then throw the controller when they get smoked playing against another person

I used to listen to Rogan a lot. Because IMO he is a great interviewer and he was great at creating a casual environment.

His interviews with Burr and Chapelle were great, and I love the one with Tarantino.

I did not follow on his UWF fights nor the conspiration videos, since I am not into that.

I never had him as a valid political interlocutor so I did not disengage until he overtly supported Trump. Then the mask was completely off and it was obvious that he is a grifter.

Rogan is a very skilled influencer, he is very smart and he has his guests doing the talking.

When I disengaged, I notice how often he is recommended innsuggestions, exactly like the “WOKES OWNED” kind of wideos.

He is another part of this machinery that the Elites have created to divide and conquer the plebes.

During lockdown we were getting slammed and I was working 10 - 11 hour shifts and was finishing all my podcasts and had run out of audiobooks. So just needing something to listen to while I worked I gave his show a shot. Listened to two episodes and then signed up for Tidal and just started listening to music instead.

The only channel I got into during lockdown was CrackingTheCryptic…2 of the best sudoku solvers from the UK just solve sudokus. Simon is hilarious in how he gets so tickled when he figures something out.

The only podcast I actually listened to was the Always Sunny podcast, but that was when I bought a house and had to repaint a lot of rooms/ceilings. So I had hours upon hours of time to fill

Women who find this appropriate, I hope you also find it appropriate for men to define what makes a girl into a woman. What I’m getting at is that I’m tired of these posts and I think that if you’re not a man, you should shut up forever when discussion of “what makes a real man” is concerned.

My dude, it’s just a joke and a pretty good one in my opinion. It was not an attempt at legitimate discussion. Obviously whether or not a male is subscribed to Joe Rogan is not criteria for being a man. It’s when Abe Simpson from The Simpsons stops being silly and starts being relatable that a boy turns to a man.

Hearing a joke once is easy to brush off but hearing it 1000 times gets grating. It’s like how transphobes have 2 jokes we’ve heard 1000 times each. At a certain point it’s just like… holy shit can you shut up?

All right women, back up, a man has entered the room.

A boy becomes a man when he unsubscribes from Joe Rogan’s podcast.

I don’t want you to say it either, but it’s especially obnoxious when people gatekeep a gender they don’t even belong to. Women gatekeeping womanhood is bad. Men gatekeeping womenhood is terrible. Am I making sense to you?

Okay so to make sure I understand you:

            • Men gatekeeping womanhood: Terrible
            • Women gatekeeping womanhood: Bad
            • Men gatekeeping manhood: Good
            • Women gatekeeping manhood: Fine

Is that correct? Do you not see the obvious double standard here? The fact that Joe Rogan is an idiot tool is not really relevant here, especially to anyone who has like… any principles.

It would be absolutely ruinous if I actually believed any of those. When I said that men gatekeeping women was terrible, I was copying your words. I think it matters way more what they’re actually saying.

And yes, Joe Rogan is relevant because you have postured yourself as fighting for the inclusion of his viewers into our big, capital M Manhood celebration, the viewers of a vaccine denier. A very strange thing to pitch for.

See, another interpretation of “when a boy becomes a man” is about the process of growing up. And, forgive me, I do think that having a grifter like that in your watch history does mean that you’re still 14.

Are they? I haven’t encountered any super preachy carnivores, just idiots that seem to thing it gives them +1 man points and a few true believers who literally only eat meat but my only exposure to that group is weird YouTubers. I have definitely met the preachy vegan archetype many times though and while I can’t take judgment from a dude eating a baconator seriously. The vegans definitely like to claim the high road and wield shame like a knife.
