You’d have an arrest quota, just like everyone else. I wouldn’t judge you, but you’d really have to continually find out and document major shit, putting yourself in serious danger, just to balance out all the harm you’d (have to) do. Would it be worth it? Maybe. But that’s a hell of a dice roll…

One thing I’ve learned from the web serial Worm is that, trying to infiltrate an organization and serve as a double agent is HARD. Here’s the thing, going undercover is hard. Convincingly pretending to have different values day after day is one actual method of actually changing your values overtime. Even emotionally balanced and trained spies can fuck that up and start sympathizing with the more human elements of the group they’re trying to infiltrate.

I would LOVE for people to join ICE if only to sabotage and document the shit that’s going on. Oh, the person got away? Damn, that sucks. Someone must’ve tampered with the zip ties. And that you, Robbin McMuffin beating the shit out of that immigrant? Better jot it down.

      https://www.newsweek.com/ice-agents-salaries-benefits-recruitment-bonuses-big-beautiful-bill-2098015

Salaries are being advertised as between $49,739 and $89,528 per year, with ICE stating that pay can be increased through overtime, as well as location-dependent additions.

Existing agents, along with those with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), will get a $10,000 yearly bonus for the next four years. New agents will also get signing bonuses, similar to those introduced for Border Patrol officers under the Biden administration.

The new budget also included provisions for additional bonuses, with agents able to receive extra pay for their performance, as well as for their commitment to an additional two years with the agency.

It seems plausible at the very least.

That bonus alone is what I make in an entire year. Meanwhile these people are throwing it around like it’s chump change while saying I’m not allowed to have healthcare.

Not only does America have so much money where auditing the Pentagon has enough money to cure a lot of global societal ills, it also has so much it could create a whole second paramilitary. America, I know you’re not at pathetic as you look right now. Every single one of you are being robbed exponentially. You’re enabling them if you’re not actively resisting. It’s killing you, it’s killing everyone around you and it’s damning our species and planet. What are you going to to to y(our) abusers. At what point do you look at the wealthy as war criminals that harm us all. They are now trying to do to you what you have done to others abroad. You need to act fast and soon or you won’t have anything left to lose. There are countless examples of resistance from tiny nations. You, the people, have allies. Use their example.

God. I fucking suck, listen to my boot licker orphan crushing machine take but ICE was wildly over budget. Sorta obviously since this fascist ass surge. It wasn’t until the oligarchal gift of the new national budget that ICE started this new wave of hiring CAREER brown shirts. Up until now it’s been deputized prison guards and cops.

I don’t disagree with the meme in the slightest, but just wanted to add context to why this is a huge escalation and a new facet of our nazi hellscape.

Oh and pay the godamn teachers.

This is the way. Call out people who just hurl out insults and claim something is false. Rather than just downvote, make them actually put into words what their stance actually is. Make them hear themselves either become unable to defend their own stances, or expose them for having no stances.

I don’t agree with the guy, but it is worth noting that there are around 21k ICE agents, vs 3.8 million teachers.

That extra funding would probably spread a little thin when you’re sharing it with over 100x the number of people.

It’s extremely easy to calculate out. The low end accounting just for personnel in the BBB is 48,500 million dollars per year / 3.8 million teachers results in $12,768/year per teacher.

Now how much is that per year per teacher for the full 75 billion dollars?

I couldn’t source the 48.5 billion for personnel number. I’m seeing a total budget increase for ICE to 30 billion. But still a large number for sure. But that’s total budget, not just personnel.

But look, I agree with the sentiment. I’d rather this money be spent on teachers too. I’m just not convinced that the numbers, as presented in the meme, are meaningful.

Total allocated for 2025-2026 is 170 billion when including the additional 75B allocated by the BBB. 91.6B of which is for the border wall and concentration camps.

Disbanding ICE entirely would be 21k per teacher per year.

I did get my 45B second hand, and I’m not sure where the extra 15B came from tbh, and it seems like it might’ve swapped the personnel and facility portions. Going to the source; the actual bill, page 904 allocates:

29.85 billion to ICE for the purposes of hiring, training, recruiting and retaining officers

So if you think 8k per teacher per year is chump change, let me know where to send the bill as that is my hourly rate which you now owe me.

You can search the internet to see if it is correct or not:

example: “Salaries are being advertised as between $49,739 and $89,528 per year … Existing agents, along with those with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), will get a $10,000 yearly bonus for the next four years”

On the other hand $42000 bonus to every ICE agent has been discussed elsewhere:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/ATC/comments/1kz7u2e/ice_agent_bonus_proposal_for_42000_per/

So some of them will be having a six figure salary with the bonuses, despite on the lower end. On the other hand average elementary school teacher salary in US is about $50000.

I have gotten conflicting information from a number of sources. Are ICE agents generally under compensated or well compensated compared to the average American salary? I know that law enforcement is generally well paid and usually takes home above the average US income. I know their are government pay scales and multiple other factors that go into calculating someone’s salary.
