it’s always so washed out, every. single. AI. IMAGE. regardless of style they all look washed out and flat. there’s zero vibrant colors for anything. One of them just gorged on this “trend” and all the rest of them followed suite eating the slop.

It’s gotten to the point now where you don’t even need to look at the inaccuracies with something, you just need to look at the colors to tell if it’s AI or not.

pay attention to how intentional things are. nothing in this picture is motivated. the man has his arm raised, but not in a welcoming manner, more like he’s saying hi. he also isnt looking at the viewer. there is also no discernable landmark or important features. the only other thing is a bus, which doesnt have a door on the right, which i dont know about you, but every bus ive seen in north America has the door on the right.

a real advertisement for Canada would likely ask you to visit or experience something about Canada, like a national park or iconic building in a city, or have a recognizable public figure. it absolutely would not bring up something objectively negative like being deported in the same space as an invitation to visit.

all im saying is that, there is a basic language to art and this reads like an alien that is aware that there are rules but does not understand why there are rules nor how they operate

While I know this is slop and think your explanations for why you can tell are sound. You’re mixing in arguments for why this couldn’t be a real ad, and that’s a separate argument. I think the assumption is much more likely to be that it’s a human made meme and not a real ad.

I did not think about the landmark thing!!! That’s such a good point!!! I honestly read the hand position as a polite “hey there” but that might be my autism, but it does make sense what you said!! Thank you I’ll try to see the bigger “picture” of what the intent of a piece would be and if the drawing is actually attempting to do it, that’s a really good point and something AI will not be able to fulfill any time soon!

The font and text placement are indeed really big giveaways, I thought it was weird that the text didn’t follow the angle of the drawing, and the font is so uninspiring and meh, also the line thickness, that’s so true too!! Thank you!!!

I had my suspicions, but I also thought “is this really AI or someone who isn’t good at drawing?” I’m a furry so I see a lot of people who draw, but don’t do it that well and sometimes the drawings look clean, but clearly fucked up because the artist doesn’t know what they’re doing, and with digital media you can use tools to draw perfect circles and smooth lines to hide the lack of experience and knowledge super easily

The style used did it for me. It seems distinct for at least one popular engine (chatgpt?) as it pops up everywhere. Especially the face and hands.

The trees on the left are strangely offset upwards, there is a line down the windshield which I have never seen on a bus like that, the bus also does not have a door at the front, which they typically do, and to a lesser degree that yellow looks like it belongs to a school bus, while this clearly isn’t one

True!! The trees don’t make sense going up there, it looks a bit like an attempt to scale them, but it doesn’t work at all, also the bus door being missing only works because the glass bends down as if there was a lower section there, but without a door it makes no sense (altho a bus not having a door there is possible, just came back from Chile and the tourism buses had the door in the middle, not on the front) and you’re the second person I read mentioning the yellow bus, that is def something I would never pick up, here in Brazil we don’t have those yellow school buses, so it never became that hard association for me

Honestly the silver lining with all this is how innately obvious it is what it is currently.

Literally just reeks of the same level of effort as someone making a meme out of clipart or one of those boomers that uses that fancy Facebook status feature.

If you need to generate a hero image to make your witty tweet good enough to share, maybe go back to the drawing board

no, I don’t know what you used but this is not what I’m talking about. you can find inconsistencies, colors that don’t make sense, a whole set of issues but that’s AI in general.

what I’m talking about a very specific style that vaguely apes the ligne claire style of comics, adding an old paper filter and completely lacking soul. they can have zero “errors” and still be recognizable because they are so exact and eerily similar in their style. there’s a difference between a person drawing in a particular style and a machine emulating it.

You can see these comics on Lemmy from time to time, although it might be getting less common since it gets negative comments every time. I’m pretty sure they come from one particular comic generator. or possibly multiple that use the same underlying model.

They have the same soulless faces, usually very limited and recognizable facial expressions. i recently saw one with dinosaurs and even they had the exact facial expressions that I’ve seen in other AI slop comics. they also have the same faux lettering font for text.

I think, ChatGPT usually produces those. Very recognisable, and remind me of one comic artist that also makes characters with eerie smiles, simplified style, but also very dark humour and traumas. Can’t remember their name, though.

There isn’t a real way to tell anymore other then using ai detector (there are a few free websites). What people are referring to is the specific style chatgpt uses by default when making comics. They are currently the best for generating comics with text, but they overlay their style so the hate isn’t directed towards them. We are very close to having open source tools that can generate full comic pages with text in whatever style asked of it.
