Every single metric that was laid out decades ago has not only been reached it has been surpassed. We’re so fucking fucked on an unimaginable scale and it’s honestly terrifying how no one seems to care.
I’m really looking forward to the deaths of oldest, stupidest, and loudest of the people who don’t care. In fact, many of them die every day. As the salt water infiltrates their reinforced caskets and slowly attacks their preservative-ridden corpses, the planet heals itself.
Imagine you were born into a world that just experienced the defeat of fascism, the dawn of the nuclear age, the green revolution, the triumph of fordist production, and Keynesian economics. You might have been arrogant enough to think you’ve conquered nature, too.
It is the working class vs the 1%, not generation vs generation.
In this circumstance I think it’s both. There is an enormous wealth and income gap between them and us.
Humans are remarkably good at not caring about something until it affects them personally at which point it’s too late to do anything about it
I care alot. That’s why I got a vasectomy. Don’t you care your kids? Then dont have them. In the best case scenario, they would lord over wage slaves who would make your kids money. Why would you want that for your kids? And thats the best case…
Just like daddy drops in his drink. … And then he gets maaad.
Once and for all
I’ve been told that AI will fix this
“Just need to melt a few more ice caps and my LLM will have the solution to preventing the ice caps from melting!”
Man, those libs are sure working overtime selling their hoax.
Tell me about it. Do you have any idea how high the specific heat of water is? George Soros must be running those space lasers 24/7 to make such a convincing show.
It’s a conspiracy I tell you, the operators of all 250,000 worldwide weather stations are in a coordinated effort to misreport temperatures
As the evidence gets more and more overwhelming they seem to be dropping the hoax thing and calling it natural change.
Of course.
Meanwhile in Central Europe there’s snowfall in the alps and max temperatures are below 15C even in the lowlands.
We’re so fucked
I used to ski every year since i was a child, but i took a good 10-12 year break. When i went back in the region i usually went skiing, the glacier was pretty much gone. At least compared to what i remembered. It was quite shocking.
We’re at 20-25, unless you mean see some other lowlands 🤔
Zurich for example
Maybe lowlands isn’t the best word but it’s not high up in the alps
One of my favorite copes in the USA is that all this weather data is faked by Democrats / leftists, so no need to worry about it.
Another popular take is: “China is really filthy, so why should we try to be clean?”
“By the time things go really bad, I’ll be dead, so who cares?”
Basically selfish people being selfish. I’d like to leave the world better than I found it, not worse.
This is why we can’t have anything nice.
Well, when I read your examples, I’m also like: WTF?
But at the same time, I also can’t justify doing more than I’m already doing when companies and billionaires are so wasteful. I do recycle plastics etc, but it is becoming very difficult to justify me having to take this action, when 3M down the river just dumps all possible forever chemicals in our rivers and even have a government issued permit allowing them to do so.
So in short, on some level, I’m also selfish. Let the corporations and billionaires that pollute the most take action. There is very little someone like me can do, and I’m already doing most of the stuff I can. For instance, we have 2 electric cars, solar panels, well insulated home with a heatpump, we recycle as much we can, etc…
that level of selfishness is pathological.
and I mean it, as it literally harms others, so it’s not just a quirky attitude.
let that sink in
agree, it’s too high
We’ll be letting a lot of things sink in over the next 50 years
Im excited for the world’s biggest battle royal at the pole. The circle closing in will be a lethal wet bulb temperature.
So Norway is warming up? Imagine the pristine year round hiking in those mountains. Beautiful if not for the horrors that got us here.
Real estate investment funds are scrambling to pick up coastal acreage of Norway’s hottest new vacation beach front property.
(Sarcasm doesn’t cover ir. Tragic jest maybe?)
Joke’s on them when AMOC collapses.
Arctic glamping resort in the Scottish highlands for less than $25,000/night!
I don’t know about Norway specifically, but I believe you’re at least generally correct:
I think it ironic that the South europeans have started coming here for “coolcation” only to find it almost as hot as down there.
Yeah, I get the reasoning, but it’s not all about latitude. The Gulf Stream and Polar Front Jet Stream have huge impacts on local climates. Britain would probably have a lot more beaches with cool temperatures if they’re looking for those in an easily accessible country from Europe.
I can only remember one summer with more than a day or two of 30+ degrees c. They are usually right to come here for more comfortable temperatures. We usually want to leave the other way when we have rainy 12 degrees summers.
Huh, another thing I learned on lemmy. Thanks for helping keep this place better than the r-word.
Not all summers are rainy though, but it kind of feels like it. A normal good summer day is mid twenties. I’m from just about where the post is about. Futher south is more consistently nice.
Honestly, I like rain. I lived for a long time in a place that was almost always sunny, with summer temps getting into the high 30s.
Don’t worry; it’s only temporary.
'Course, once it stops Norway will have a much worse problem.
What year was this?
Edit: ok the thin red line is peak highs for all recorded years. The blue line is peak lows.
The red isn’t peak high for all years. According to the legend in the upper left, the red line is the high temperature for those days in 2025. The other lines peaking up around it are past years.
Can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not but I’m not referring to the 2025 line. I marked it in yellow in my screenshot
Sorry about that, guess I’m just blind. I’m viewing on mobile and all the smaller lines look Grey and didn’t see the yellow line until the brightness was cranked up.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics.
That graph has just one month of data. For all we know it could be a regular occurance for this month. And equally low on the opposite side resulting in the average.
That said. Duh, even many republicans agree the climate is changing. They just argue tha we didn’t cause it. Like that will really matter when we are all dead from doing nothing.
12 consecutive days is definitely less than a month, yes
Not on Mercury
