You can run Genshin Impact on Linux
You can, but you shouldn’t
Not under my roof
speak for yourself
I recently learned there’s an entire fork of proton entirely for “anime” games (dwproton). They be dedicated
Genshin and ZZZ have been running fine from the official installer in a Proton Prefix for years now. They use a different anticheat from the two Honkai games for some reason.
Does that mean that Honkai games still can’t be played on Linux? There goes my idea of giving Star Rail a try.
I know a lot of you don’t care if these games run or not, but really does suck they don’t. I’ve talked to quite a few people that wouldn’t switch to Linux because X game doesn’t run on it.
Mechwarrior 2 Titanium trilogy, arguably the best games EVER MADE (fight me, wetnose) doesn’t really run on anything beyond Windows 2000. I simply refuse to update to any OS that doesn’t retain the functionality of my games.
Why not run linux on your main and have a Windows 2000 Virtual Machine?
Because I don’t really run Windows 2000 on my main machine. It was sarcasm.
Plus… Running mint on my main, and I’ve tried a couple of emulators and VMs to try to run MW2 and none of them do a good job of it, especially if you want to use a controller or joystick. Frankly, If I had a real heavy hankering for my vintage games, I’d just build an airgapped legacy system specifically for running that game.
Agreed, I switched my gaming rig to Linux for 6 months and was so excited to get things working. Went back to windows on it because I kept going to play with friends, and would often have to mess with Proton versions (again) to get the game working.
I really enjoy the Grounded games, so when Grounded 2’s early access was about to release I switched back to avoid dealing with those issues.
Still rocking Linux on my non-gaming devices though, aside from SteamDeck.
Went back to windows on it because I kept going to play with friends,
Shame.
I really enjoy the Grounded games, so when Grounded 2’s early access was about to release I switched back to avoid dealing with those issues.
Shame, shame, shame.
What would you recommend I do so that I wouldn’t have ran into those issues? Suck it up and keep dealing with the headaches?
I’m no fan of Windows either, but it lets me play games when I want to play them.
Both Grounded games are listed as Gold on ProtonDB, just FYI
Edit: Oh, I see. No crossplay. Well that sucks.
People will always come up with a reason to stay with what they have.
And other people will always come up with a reason you need to leave what you have even if it satisfies your need.
Your personal needs are not the concern. Free the software free the society.
Your personal opinions are not my concern.
Your personal needs are not the concern
And with that attitude you’ve already lost.
Yeah, I’m lucky that my main games of interest weren’t blocked from Linux when I switched. If I had a friend group that played BF6, it likely would’ve been a harder decision
Idc for any of these games. So yeah, Linux wins.
linux got just a little worse pretty recently: roblox is now playable on it
sober is the project name that ports it to Linux
Um, acktchuailley Linux can run Genshin through An Anime Launcher.
I imagine Linux can run most of those. Odds are the OP just didn’t try hard enough.
What is completely understandable.
No, all of them have Anticheat. Some may work up to and including the main screen or a few seconds of gameplay, but not further.
I’ve played Genshin Impact just fine on my Steam Deck using An Anime Launcher.
Runs BF6: ❌
That trash even requires you to enable secure boot. Get the fuck outta here with those ridonkulous requirements 😂
Had set up dualboot for bf6, then after playing a bit on release i realised the game isnt as good as bf3/bf4 and returned it. Havent booted into win11 since.
Runs Genshin impact: ✅
Runs the launcher: ❌
It works pretty well on proton. It’s just the launcher that doesn’t. So you need to update using a VM or windows, then run the exe instead.
It’s been a while though, and I haven’t tried playing it since before the volcano update. I think star rail is the same, but Honkai Impact 3rd doesn’t work, even in VMs
and it runs mafia the old country, which doesn’t have multi player crap or microtransactions, so yeah, absolute win
Well, good that my ol pal rimworld works like a charm
I’ve got a decent rig and rimworld chokes at a reasonable farmyard size. What’s your secret?
When I was using fedora I was using faugus launcher, now I’m driving arch and lutris works like a charm, u need to try to tinker a bit. Try using wine-ge or proton experimental. Maybe there are missing vulkan liberies. Whats your GPU? And can u somehow dm me? Im new lemmy user so I’m not very familiar yet with any features
My mostly-vanilla (ie mods don’t hugely change gameplay/add anything crazy) Rimworld runs fine on my probably what’s considered mid-range PC. I second the other commenter; you probably need to cut back on the mods.
You can use https://launcher.moe/ 's software for Hoyo games btw. The top one is the one for Genshin Impact.
Though last I installed Genshin on Linux I remember there being a slight chance of getting banned because you had to disable the anticheat to run it on Linux, but I never had it happen to me and I’m not sure if that’s still valid.
Last I played the game was single player… fuck these companies man
The game’s anticheat is very tame generally. I’ve seen some friends run all sorts of cheats with no real repercussions, only getting a one week temp ban for editing their damage to the maximum integer limit.
Warframe - Linux: ✅️
Conclusion, Linux wins.
Quite a few of these games are in geforce now and geforce now has an official linux client now
I miss peak Destiny 2 tho. It was the only reason I dual booted for many years.
Same, I got in just and the end of the good stuff so didn’t have that long to really enjoy it. I did love my time playing but there was so much that made it clear it was only gonna get worse. Seeing Bungie fall like that really sucked, they had been my favorite game dev all the way since halo 1, and look at them now…
You mean to tell me that Genshin Impact is more than just a hentai franchise…?
And let me guess, next you’ll say the same thing about Overwatch.
