    I remember reading some Godfather tidbit that said that the cat in The Godfather was a stray found around the set and that Coppola decided to include in the movie. People actually thought that cat was supposed to be some kind of symbolism.

      I’ll never forget in high school literature class our teacher way over-analyzing every book to pull out every bit of abstract symbolism and it was such a headache. Years later I remember reading the author’s perspective on their own writings and they said there was no symbolism intended, it was just a story with details, like life.

    If I’m remembering this correctly, Brando didn’t learn lines because he felt it interfered with giving a more “natural” performance- they used to use billboards across the street from whatever restaurant they were filming in

    very eccentric, to be sure, but IMO and also many other’s Os, one of the all time greatest
