I remember a few years ago, when a ton of MAGA people fell for it and payed just to brag that they are in the top 90% of the most intelligent people, not realizing that this means they are in the bottom 10%.

My grandma died ten years ago. She was cremated and buried somewhere in Florida.

She still just forwarded me this post.

I’ve got an IQ of ninety-six, which is good enough for me. It’s pretty high, just four points off the maximum.

It’s funny, because you literally never see people mention that they’re within a standard deviation of the average, even though that’s supposed to be 70% of the people who take the test.

Everyone’s either bragging about their 140 IQ or accusing someone else of being “room temperature”. Nobody seems to understand 96 is normal human intelligence and normal humans are - by and large - smart enough to get the job done.

I actually have no idea what my IQ is. I just say 96 cause it’s the shy side of perfectly average, and no one has any follow-up questions about that, and then the IQ conversation is fizzled out, and we can talk about more interesting things, like the guy who’s currently leaving a shit against my birch tree just outside.

Fucker better wipe my tree. >:(

I actually have no idea what my IQ is.

I mean, safe bet that it’s within 10 points of 100. Guessing 96 is as valid as any other number in that range.

Fucker better wipe my tree. >:(

At the end of the day, I take comfort in recognizing that no one knows me, and that both my contributions and my cringe will be erased from the shore of civilization by the tides of time. I’m not famous, not smart, not special, not a pedophile in charge of the country, I’m just nobody, and that gives me all the power I would ever want.

The thing I’d like news sites or other sites that use paywalls to understand is that I am not likely to sign up for a $5/$10/$15/$20+ subscription just to skim through a single panic-inducing article or quiz and then probably never return. I will literally press that little back button and go somewhere else.

On the one hand, I agree, but on the other hand, this means that the ones supported by the billionaires will have the advantage.

Not that there’s any guarantee media you pay for isn’t owned by billionaires paying more. Or just promising things to bootlickers that they might never intend on following through on.

The first time you get tricked by this can be written off as experimentation. It’s the folks that are suckered in over and over again, and take some kind of personal pride in receiving a little “You’re Such A Smart Little Guy” certificate from a random website that have you looking sideways.

An extra twist is when you then get fooled to pay $10-20 they will take the same amount once a week until you notice.

when I see people bragging about their high IQ it reminds me of those people who buy sports cars and then take them around to shows on a trailer with 5 miles on the odometer to talk about how it has 750 horsepower and a top speed of 300mph

If the test says you’re very dumb: well, duh, you’re wasting your time for vain reasons online, move along; otherwise: yikes, what a waste of potential, all that grey matter and no bitches/no stacks/no eudaimonia? 🤣
