Not recent, but I spent the majority of my teenage years dealing with awfully frizzy and unmanageable hair because I was shampooing daily (also using an excessive amount). I was under the impression that you need to thoroughly shampoo all oils away every time you shower in order to be “clean.” When I moved to university and no longer had parents around to tell me that I stink, my hygiene standards became more… relaxed, but I was surprised that my hair was a lot healthier!

it varies from person to person. I have very oily skin and hair.

about 30 minutes after a shower where I use an oil stripping soap my skin looks like I rubbed Vaseline all over it.

I have to routinely soak/bleach my sheets/pillows to remove all the oil.

at this point I’m surprised the US army hasn’t invaded my ass.

I started looking up basic stuff after I saw a video of that guy who would shit in his hand in the bathroom and thought that was normal.

Turns out I was brushing my teeth backwards, you’re supposed to use mouthwash, then floss, then brush, and don’t spit.

every dentist I have ever gone to in 50 years it’s always been; brush, floss, wash. always spit.

even people I have dated brushed like this.

not saying you’re wrong…but you might want to verify your sources.

Mouthwash not necessary. Statistically flossing first then brushing has cleaner teeth, but functionally dental professionals just want you to be flossing at all so we won’t judge you for flossing after. Spit and leave residual fluoride toothpaste on teeth.

Or you can just brush. For me mouthwash is something to use if you’re too tired to stand around brushing or in too much of a rush or need to re-clean your mouth after a snack.

But yeah when I use both I do mouthwash first because slushy liquids are more likely to remove toothpaste on the tooth surface.

i learned a trick, if you have water flosser you can fill it up partially with the mouthwash to help clean better before flossing with the strings. also another side thing, apparently you shouldnt use moutwash excessively as it reduces the good microbiome in your mouth.

the blue one with cpc does help with inflammation, of the gums, also works on canker sores(helps it heal faster, doesnt stop it if its already a fully formed one), and some forms of sore throat.

Opening cereal/fruit/granola bars and similar foil wrappers. I would tear them on the serrated part and then only a sliver of the wrapper would come off and I’d have to try to widen the resulting hole in order to extract the bar, often crumbling part of it in the process. However, quite by accident I discovered that if I instead ignore the serration and tear against that foldy seam part that runs down the entire bar, then it separates right down the middle like magic and I can easily remove the bar. Often works on 8/16oz cheese too.

I’ve heard this before too, but no way, need a good rinse, and don’t get toothpaste residue on the towel or anywhere, rinse well, mouth, hands and brush. The dentist has given my teeth great reviews for decades now from brush 2x a day, floss as needed and rinse the tp well. I get fluoride in the water too so it hasn’t been an issue for my teeth at least.

It takes long enough after brushing and rinsing well to not have the odd tastes from eating as it is, but maybe not an issue for others and that would be nice.

Toothpaste instructions often tell you to rinse with a small amount of water, but dentists here always say not to.

My dentist has also said the order doesn’t matter. My guess is that the benefits of flossing at all outweigh any small benefits from doing it in a specific order. I’m also assuming most dentists are just happy if you floss and don’t want to nitpick on technique unless it’s causing issues.

      this is nonsense.

you’re not suppose to eat/drink after brushing, esp anything acidic.

because you want the fluoride in the toothpaste to stay on your teeth. and it’s like 10-15m.

you are suppose to rinse your mouth. just like you rinse the flouride treatment at the dentist.

The fluoride concentration in toothpaste is not high enough to cause toxicity if not rinsed out. Don’t eat mouthfuls of it, but the small amount left after brushing is beneficial for enamel. Ask literally any qualified dentist. Literally a couple weeks back, my dentist suggested that I can put a little dab on a tender spot of my tooth after brushing before going to sleep to target it.

i do that, sometimes i do postbrush, apply some toothpaste if i somehow rinsed after brushing. the sensitivity toothpaste works best for a tooth that maybe sensitive. you have to eat so much toothpaste to even get poisoned by the flouride. it was only ever concerns for children that are still going. some adults actually believe you still can get flourosis from toothpaste.

while i was looking at toothpastes to buy, online people are obsessed with the ones that whiten thier teeth(mildly or otherwise), they think flouride free they feel “more cleaner” they dont realize some of these off-brand toothpaste that has whitening, especially nHA(is apparently abrasive too) is just cleaning the plaque, food better than normal colgate, or crest. because its more abrasive, obviously some complained it dint change thier teeth health, thier cavaties returned, or it did nothing because its non-abrasive.

alot of these toothpaste has so much mintoil it can cause a burning sensation and some can cause allergies on the lips.

For years I kept dating and being in relationships and putting a lot of effort into it. Also socializing and making friends too.

I gave up about 5 years ago and I’m much much happier with my life. It’s amazing how much better I feel on a daily basis when my energy and efforts aren’t going into a black hole from which no joy comes out. I also rapidly achieved a lot of life goals after 10+ years of achieving almost none of them.

Being mostly totally alone is completely awesome and I’m annoyed that other people convinced me it was terrible and awful.

I’m actually moving in the opposite direction. I was (still am really) a massive introvert, then I got really, really, really sick and realized I have zero support if something happens where I can’t take care of myself. I realized at the end of the day humans are a social species and we need some level of human connection to thrive.

I’m somewhere in the middle. Big introvert (actually I’m autistic) and I really isolated after a bad friendship broke down years ago, not the first time. I just didn’t want to put myself back out there and keep getting hurt. I was also sick of the thing people say like “let’s hang out sometime” and then nothing ever happens. It’s just a polite saying apparently? So I stopped taking those statements as any interest in a friendship.

Relatively recently, a coworker said the whole we should hang out thing and I was sigh this again. We got along so well at work but I didn’t trust that let’s hang out sometime crap. Until one day she actually pulled her diary out and was like when are you free. Anyway now we’re actually friends and hang out quite a bit!

It’s the kind of person you let in I think. I was taken advantage of so many times and in toxic friendships I assumed that’s just what friendships were. They don’t have to be. You just have to know when to let those relationships go and how to recognize the friendships that are actually fulfilling!

Speak for yourself. When I’ve been sick my gf/family told me to go f myself and what an asshole I am for getting sick. Literally nobody is ever going to take care of me, and never has. When my dad was dying, my 5 year old girlfriend didn’t help, she broke up with me for ‘being a loser who is sad about his stupid dad’. Oh and then called me up asking me for money after we broke up. Most of my gfs/friends actively tried to sabotage the progress in my life and would argue against me doing the things that improved my life. Working out, not drinking, eating right, saving, investing, were all labeled ‘gay, stupid, weird, queer’.

At the end of my days, people add very little to my life, and having them in my life results in a net negative. Which is precisely why excluding them in my life has lead to massive gains in my health, happiness, and wealth. I can work out, eat right, and pursue my passions and grow my career skills without repeatedly being told how awful and shitty doing those things are, and what I should be doing with my life is sitting on my ass drinking booze, eating fast food, and watching shitty sitcoms every night.

You can lecture me all you want, but I’ve never had anyone in my life really add anything of value or given me any genuine support and the second I ask for help they tell me what a piece of shit I am and then start asking me for help. Anytime I called anyone up to try and share good news, like getting a $35,000 raise, buying a home, or adopting my pets, I was told how shitty I was and then asked for money by so called ‘friend’ or family member or other person who supposedly ‘cares’ about me and lecturing me what an asshole I am because they ‘deserve’ my money more than I do and I shouldn’t be able to have a home, or pets, or a car, or a great job.

Which is to say, without all that horrid negatively dragging me down from my supposed ‘support structure’ I am finally able to be happy and enjoy my life without being shamed, harassed, or threatened. I’m also allowed to be proud of my achievements in life, rather than being repeatedly told how horrible and undeserving I am for having achieved them.

Walking in general. Physical therapy both sucks super hard and is vastly improving my life. I’ve had a decades long back injury caused by a dog attack, but I’ve apparently been walking in a way that guards a wound not entirely there.

    Thank you PT.

    FUCK you PT.

Oh god yes, this. I hate it so much. I’m so glad I’ve gone. Gotta go back as soon as I can afford to get some help with upper back tightness. Fuck the list of 8 new exercises I’m going to get, hate, and find magically fix my prooblem.

In the meantime between getting back to physio, try a cheap TENS unit. I found a lot of relief by slowly over the course of a few days applying 30 mins of electroshock to my lower back when it acts up. When I was going to physio, besides the exercises they gave I would get 20 mins of TENS therapy. I figured I could save time and money by just doing the shocking myself as well as my morning stretches.

Cellophane rolls like cling wrap, and other cooking rolls like parchment paper need to have the sheet length you want pulled out then close the box lid over it-

Do this, and they tear away perfectly- EVERY TIME.

I learned that you should roll up a period pad and use the wrapper of the new pad to hold it rolled closed. They have a little tape and it reduces mess and smell.

In my defense, I didn’t use pads until last year.

going from pads / tampons to the silicone cup was my learning a better way. First week was rough but by the end of the week and thereafter I couldn’t even feel it once it was in. Went to fuck a few times and the dude was like TF is this? And I’d be like oh shit lemme swap it for a disc real quick.
