I’m gonna lose so much weight once I don’t have a teen in the house. The snacks. It’s like the ring. Every moment is a moment of avoiding being cheeky with a little snack

I understand that I’m not the target audience of this meme, but I’m confused. Isn’t it an option to simply eat dinner?

Alternatively… to simply be hungry for an hour or three?

The joke is that at the time of shopping we decide to be strong and be hungry, but when the time comes to test that determination, we don’t have the strength of our past well-wed self.

Also snacks imply something besides dinner.

I’m still confused. I thought the Snack situation was,

        1. You’re hungry,

        2. The chips are ready to eat,

        3. You eat the chips.

So if there are no chips, you have to make something to eat instead, which becomes de facto Dinner. So the No Snack situation is

        1. You’re hungry,

2a. There is no food ready to eat,

2b. You make food to eat,

        1. You eat the food.

I might be off base here, but I don’t snack, and I actually don’t understand.

      Dinner is not snacking.

Dinner is a commitment. You make dinner to eat dinner.

Evening snacking is optional and periodic. You can have few snacks. You can have many snacks. You can snack here or there. You can snack anywhere. You can snack reading a book. You can snack in a nook.

If I make dinner… I am eating dinner. If I grab snacks, I might have a few laying in bed after ripping a joint and I can stop at any time. Just a few more chips. I’m good.

I don’t snack at all. I only put food in my face two or three times a day, sometimes 4 if I’m working hard. Guess who isn’t fat.

Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, various nuts and other baked legumes are decent alternatives for chips.

There are all rice chips, root chips, pea chips, and so forth.

Nothing, however, can replace real chips…

Just be careful, because nuts are pretty calorie dense.

Popcorn is a good option for when your brain just wants to shovel food in your mouth.

Yeah, I used to get nuts, but I go through them quickly, easily eating more calories at a faster rate than if I get grabbed some Cheetos^™.

Now, I air-pop my own popcorn. The additional effort is a helpful chance to ask myself if I really want to snack, and a full half cap of kernels (which is a lot of popped corn) and as much EVOO as I care to dose it with is still a lot fewer calories than I would get from nuts, and it takes longer to eat.

pickles, cucumbers, carrots, peppers. nice and crunchy, basically zero cal, they take some time to eat (unlike nuts that you can pop by the handful).

but yeah for shovelling, dry popcorn is a good option

Very true. I was speaking for myself a bit. I can’t eat too many nuts, they hurt my stomach so u just use them to satiate the crunch craving on the go, during the week.

On a Friday night when ive got the munchies all bets are off. And popcorn is absolutely on my rotation of brain off snacking.
