Right? Like apparently ‘no kings’ is very against civil disobedience. What? Our little group walks and fun signs are going to change systemic and heavily class based issues? Get real…

Ok but I hope that you do more than complain on internet about people that are or could be on your side.

Things need to start somewhere and amplify from there.

Revolution is not made possible by one single riot that would appear magicly out of nowhere.

I’m not American, so I may be wrong, but I feel like the ‘Americans can’t protest’ people, and the ‘please protest peacefully’ people are two entirely separate groups.

Personally I would absolutely agree with the statement that Americans can’t protest. Not just like the French, but at all. They’ve been socially engineered to be obedient ever since their country was founded (literally).

And I would also not disagree with Americans burning down police stations. Others may, but I’m pretty sure they’d never agree with the statement in the first place.

    Which is odd.

America was a country literally founded on a protest, helped by, of all people, the French. They have such a wonderful protest heritage and then they collectively decided “nope, we are meek and love the billionaire boots on our necks and ruling class dicks in our asses”.

        gorilla warfare

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

That’s because our country was sold a long time ago. The Heritage assholes and Ronny Rayguns took their victory lap 45 years ago.

Obedience and tolerance to the intolerable were beaten into anyone younger than that, and all they had to do was give the 1980s Americans an ever revolving target of innocent minorities to be the vessel of their contempt.

Now there is nothing left to strip from the economy and the billionaires are now desperately looking for another place to loot, and there is nothing left. Thanks to globalism, they already ate the planet.

If we don’t find a new way forward, capitalism is going to eat itself and us along with it.

Goes back way further than that… The simple fact is that America has never been a progressive nation that ever cared about social equity or equality.

The reason Americans cannot protest like they do in france is because the American police system was molded off of the system the slave owning Confederates developed to fight against potential slave rebellions. A system that marries institutional violence from the state and extrajudicial violence from the populace with a ruling majority to maintain a strict social hierarchy.

I’ve been thinking about what comes after, and I think an energy based economy is the future.

Using watts as a currency, since any action in reality requires energy to change it’s state. Biological or otherwise.

Covering everyone’s basic needs and then distributing the surpluses of energy to people to engage in commerce, research, recreation, etc.

It removes the speculative nature of money, which is a side effect of the abstraction from reality that money is.

Except that isn’t the direct energy conversion of a unit of energy. I’m talking basing the economy off of an objective scientific standard.

The petrodollar isn’t a good example because it just mandates that oil be traded for in USD, meaning it forced the demand for USD, but the dollar isn’t a direct conversion for a unit of oil.

My basis is that electricity (or power in the physics sense) is the currency of reality. Energy states configures matter and govern how it behaves. On an economic level, the entire process of pulling ore from the ground, refining it, and turning it into a finished good requires equipment, which is another sub process requiring some material and energy cost, and energy to run the process. Since we have entered an age where information can be easily gathered via sensors, and processed so quickly, we can transfer to an economy that uses energy as currency directly. Especially as humans are further and further removed from the labor process via technology.

Wouldn’t they just monpolize solar energy by hoarding the silicon resources? I feel like this wouldn’t solve exploitation or wealth disparities.

In my opinion, Marx was right about the abolition of private ownership. Ownership is a social contract, and social contracts can change. A lot of wealth disparities come from this system of land ownership that promotes inefficient use of prime real estate through perverse incentives. And an entrenched class of landed gentry will always push a country towards autocracy.

This “event”? The protests have been going on for couple of weeks now. Here’s one poll done after some schools were burned. You can see a bump for Le Pen. It will be even bigger bump in the next polls.

Ifop is also called opif here, which basically means random.

Anyway far right is always way overestimated in France. When election come they go down 15%. Lookup 2022 presidency. The far left is also heavily underestimated. Center is inflated too vs real results (France dems kinda)

This time over, the far left is much higher. Whatever the poll says, Le Pen might very well not even make it past the 1st round

Ok, so there are recent poll, just not the ones you like? Also, I’m not talking about how accurate the polls are overall, just that Le Pen advantage grew after the protests and that it will probably keep growing as the protests get more violent.

Where does it say that this post is specifically about this weekend protests and not protests from previous weeks or even older ones? Nowhere, you invented this because you don’t have other arguments.

You look like a happy fascist by the way.

You also invented that I’m happy about Le Pen potential win. You basically just imagine things and think those are somehow valid arguments.

They’re the ones in charge of preventing it, both at a societal level and more directly during the protests. It’s entirely their fault if they would rather tear gas people playing music and peacefully marching and protect macron’s wife family business.

This week police also responded with force to teachers protests in Madrid and anti-right demonstrations in A Coruña but no one started looting stores and burning down public buildings. I think in Spain most people realize that escalating violence doesn’t lead anywhere. Elections are close, it makes sense to organize, show dissatisfaction, rally voters. What does rioting achieve? Nothing. I really don’t know why people on lemmy keep confusing violence with protesting.

Everything got worse for black people afterwards, just like our financial system and income inequality which lead to fascism got worse after Occupy.

I don’t know the answer, but riots don’t work well in the US.
