Yeah, why was this presented as an ominous choice? Conservatives have been doing this for decades at this point.

Bannon, Bobert, Charlie Kirk, have all called for a child molester to be the one to lead a special investigation into it. So I’d have to say you’re 100% correct

Hey now, MAGA has openly supported child molesters in the past, it is nothing new to them.

Reminds me of the old Dr Who/Mythbusters line “I reject your reality and substitute my own”

Except it’s “…and substitute the one I’m fed” instead

Do you guys remember Roy Moore from Alabama who sexually assaulted a half dozen women and girls, some as young as 14, and still only narrowly lost the primary?

I feel like everybody is going to regret all this gloating when they release the list and it contains only Bill Clinton, George Soros, Obama, AOC, Mamdani, etc along with every lefty influencer and anyone who made a comment on reddit in support of Luigi Mangione. Some of the people on the list won’t even have been born when Epstein Island was in full swing, but it won’t matter, MAGA will swallow it whole and demand executions because of course they will.

Opposition to Epstein’s crimes are far too interwoven into the fabric of the cult-right/q-anon cult’s identity and mythos for them to let this go. Its not that they care about children, its that even Trump doesn’t supersede the collective rage they’re attached too with their belief in a “secret evil cabal” and “deepstate”. Protecting children is just a convenient justification for what is mostly just bitter reactionary politics towards a changing world economy or culture. Always has been.

Even if with Epstein they’re at least overlapping with the truth (Epstein was a human trafficker and rapist and many who hung out with him were rapists as well), you shouldn’t mistake that reactionary rage for an earnest desire to fix things or protect the innocent. They just want a justification to hurt people. They want someone to burn at the stake.

Why are we even pretending that they aren’t fucking sprinting to the right? When trump goes low, his cult goes lower.

There’s been a non trivial incidence of MAGA people getting pissed about one of their central outrage issues, one that Trump himself fanned hard, getting dismissed while Trump simultaneously insults then over the issue.

They might not be “going left” or anything, but there does seem to be his “boys” (and “gals”) getting pissed at Trump specifically.

Awesome. Seize those moments. That makes me happy. I’m in food work right now and there are no audible trumpers in our kitchen. Colleagues tell me kitchens are all nazi or no nazi. That makes sense. One tendency dominates. Our kitchen is queer led and quite professional.

The obstacle is more a deep sense of learned helplessness. Labor has great power, but laborers are extremely vulnerable.

I mean, food service depends in no small way on immigrants, who, even if in good legal standing, are wary. The birthright citizens feel no less trapped. We talk about it openly.

I had similar luck making jokes about Jeff Bezoar’s opulent wedding. I expressed mock concerns about his ability to pay it off. Everybody likes shitting on the ultra rich, boths sides! I learned lots of new ways to jab Jeff because many had their own quick reply.

This is what builds movements. People with great disagreements find uniting principles. ‘Don’t fiddle kids’ is a generally held principle. So is ‘One person should not have too much power’.

People with too much power tend to fiddle with kids too. These issues are interlinked.
