I could never have the opposite politics of my spouse. Sure, we may disagree slightly on some matters an nuance, but a world view in direct conflict with mine would be irreconcilable.
Fear of making near friends / difficulty making the new friends
Actual naivety of thinking the POS behaviour doesn’t matter
Weirdly, peer pressure from other people? For instance you might want to distance yourself from one friend and you are then peer pressured to be in situations with them more often by the other friends, told to build your tolerance of them
… 1 + 2 also applies to romantic relationships!
Edit: just realised ‘best friend AND roomate’ is just a way of referring to a spouse. But there it is, there’s the low-down in my opinion.
If we’re talking about politics like loudness ordinances and funding for road projects and whether the fire department needs a millage we can share the same values or same values with different priority orders no problem on the different politics.
If we’re talking about whether some people deserve rights or racism or if laws don’t apply to some people then it’s more than a politics difference, it’s a values difference.
I’m so glad my parents and brother have (nearly) the same politics as me. Having to regularly deal with trumpers (without being able to laugh in their faces as with my co-workers) would be a perpetual torment. My brother did have an inexplicable phase of loving Putin, but that passed quickly.
For which party and why? I would contend many people enjoy sex most when their partner is someone they respect, provided they’ve developed to a certain level of maturity. Perhaps you have an alternate rationale.
Even within dom/sub and other BDSM variations I would hope both partners respect each other because without that you’ve entered a very toxic and destructive space.

My partner is just slightly less left than me and I struggle with it some days. I can’t even imagine trying to date someone on the other side.
Sometimes I think about dating again after so long, and I imagine my girlfriend wanting to wiretap our place with an Alexa in the kitchen.
Seriously I don’t understand how some people can handle their best friend and roommate being a POS

You bond over other shared interests, like video games and drinking.
As silly as bonding over race, especially when we disagree on basic morality, but that’s sadly what happens. 😔

Same. I couldn’t respect someone with hardened, opposite politics to me. Sex would be satisfying though.
…would it??
You never had a good hate-fuck?
It doesn’t seem appealing tbh
