better that my town, that one has sidewalks
In my unprofessional opinion:
-Remove 2 lanes (single lanes for cars in one each direction, include raised intersections where potential high foot traffic and biker may occur)
-Improve sewage, electric, water, gas and cable lines; this should be done first bc you want to avoid heavy rain/flood.
-Add electric light transit (train) with bike/walk lanes (bike and walk lanes should connect other parts of city, and should use over and under bridges as needed) also be able to service major metro lines from nearby airport or major transit hub
-Add plenty of housing: bc this view has a Mountain it’s difficult, but with public parks (3rd places) housing can be 3-4 floors high)
-Trees!! (That thrive in this climate pine, oak etc…)
-Arranging it is all the toughest, you’d want residential face Mountain View/East/West Some restaurants and parks to have similar view There are cities you emulate from e.g. Athens Greece, Mt Fuji has couple of cities around it,
My old US city has at least a couple of roads like that. No mountain for something to ponder while you wait at a stroad intersection, though. Just more asphalt, terrible sidewalks and parking lots all around for miles.
I know where this picture was taken, I’ve stood in that spot.
Fuck Murray, that place sucks.
That’s Orem
This comment chain is peak america.
That mountain area looks really pretty
It needs a parking lot and strip mall /s
Start at the library
At least they’ve got a mountain to escape to.
Thats the feature, not the bug. Connected communities lead to less dependence on large corporate ‘services’.
I see an opportunity there for a mountain climbing club.
But I take your point.
This is in Murray, Utah, there are MANY a mountain climbing clubs.
BINGO,
Go to the mountain.
idk, just don’t live on the one road in New Jersey that this picture was taken on with a fisheye lens to make it look worse?
This is very typical suburban sprawl, not the exception you’re trying to imply.
Disinformation is uncivil and thus violates Rule 1. This is your warning.
This was taken with a tele lens. A fisheye lens looks completely different. I’m pretty sure this road looks terrible through every focal length though.
You honestly think New Jersey has mountains like that?
Now, all we need is flying, solar powered, only community owned/COOP, but on call & safe options to let the vehicle fly itself. vehicles in body shapes of our favorite vehicles, like ‘65 Mustang. Think I am dreamer if you want, but all the technology already exists!
Fuck cars of any type. We need trains of all types.
Worse than automobiles that are shared, & even more so, when they fly.
Not on energy expendetures. Cars are wasteful. Period. Trains are efficient, not as efficient as bicycles, or E-bikes, but that’s what you use for the last mile.
Small planes are even more wasteful.
This whole thread I have not been posting about traditional automobiles, not cars- hold to few passengers.
“ Does not mean everyone should own 1 or more, they should only be allowed to be used:
In car pool situations, come to each people’s location or each person’s location when needed & leave to go to the next people’s or each person’s location,
Obviously have solar cells on their bodies
&
Fly & if need be drive on the ground
&
the least important-
Come in the shapes of classic automobiles (it would be cool if it customizable by a vote on the passengers, but not a must).
All of these are technologies that already exist, just separately.”
No way anything else, even trains, can compete in best for The Earth & All Living Beings, including Us, & in affordability!
Think about this, commercial air travel industry no longer needed, fades away, huge benefits.
That’s a commercial district. It’s not intended to be a community.
Oxford street, one of London’s primary commercial districts and heavily retail-focused area.

Oxford street looks like a community to me, and at the same time it’s fulfilling all of the same “retail focused” aspects of what is shown in OP’s post/image.
That’s kinda the whole point
One of America’s biggest mistakes is signs and billboards. Its completely turns tge landscape in an ugly mess. I live near a wealthy town. They dont allow billboards or signs over 10 ft tall. It looks so much better
