How the Senate Democratic leader and his Gang of Eight keep trying to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Wonder if he’ll get “primaried”. Chuck’s definately lost touch with the democratic base. How he handled the NYC mayoral race demonstrated that.

My pet theory is that Schumer will agree to not run again, and AOC will take over his seat without primary opposition, as long as she promises to not run against Newsom for President.

yeah but AOC is someone the public could get behind as a genuine crusader for the small fry.

DNC historically backstabs people like that the hardest, in order to push the totally-not-republican-in-everything-but-name candidate on America.

The DNC backstabs those folks if they run for President, but would have no problem backing a certain victory for a Senate seat.

Weak leadership is why we are in this Trump era in the first place. Leadership comes from the Top down look at how Republicans emulate Trump.

And the Democratic party will only ever allow weak leadership. They complicit, and the sooner people realize it the sooner we can move on from this idiotic two party mentality.

There are good people who have good intentions who run as Democrats, no doubt, but they either get nowhere or they capitulate and give up too much in vain hopes of changing things from within, but the shackles never get loosened.

The Democratic party is in full swing whitewashing war criminals and normalizing boot licking and veteran warship in order to swing the Overton window to the center.

        two party mentality.

The two parties are not a “mentality”. They’re an inescapable consequence of FPTP voting. If you pretend otherwise you will simply lose. And most likely get more fascists.

Stop repeating the propaganda of your two parties like it’s gospel, it only keeps them in power.

Both Canada and the United Kingdom use FPTP voting and they have more than two viable parties that regularly win and hold seats. You keep electing fascists-light because fascists-classic is too scary, but you’re still voting for fascists.

It was Biden who full throated support for fascist Israel’s genocide against the natives they colonize, it was Biden who allowed police to attack peaceful student protestors, it was Biden’s press secretary that had police drag reporters out for asking questions, and it was Biden who spread lies and his party that continues to dehumanize Palestinians.

It was Biden that renewed FISA, who signed a bill to block railroad strike, who bypassed Leahy law to transfer arms to Israel, who extended Trump’s Title 42, who started the TikTok divestment ban that lead to the purchase everyone is blaming Trump for now. It was under Biden than the US repeatedly vetoed a ceasefire in Gaza, the DHS waived 26 laws to build border wall segments in Texas, and the DOH prosecuted Assange.

You don’t fight fascism with fascism.

Sure, but they also have prime ministers and parliaments, and are generally run differently from the United States which has had two main parties since its inception because that is what the system will produce.

I get your point, but the FPTP part of Canadian legislature is the House of Commons and there are only 2 viable parties (outside of Quebec). I think it is clear we need a different voting system to build more political parties in the US, like ranked choice voting.

Thankfully I vote in a place without a brain dead voting system, so I have the luxury of voting for who I actually want. It would be great if the US could have that too, but sadly they don’t. Once you get to the actual elections there are only 3 choices: the fascists, the limp dicks, or leave the choice to others. However much you dislike Biden, those are the choices. The time to affect what the choices are is before that in primaries and local elections and it takes time and work. A lot of it. It sucks, but that’s what it is.

And maybe, just maybe, y’all can do try to do something about that voting system.

Forever relegating the party’s future is a silly move. There is no viable progressive party. It’s been a year since he was elected, there’s still no viable progressive party. The best we’ve done is some well organized protests, but it’s the information age, darlings, protests would have to grow to violent mobs before anything is achieved, and I don’t see that happening anywhere, even as fascism is abducting citizens off the streets, repelling into their apartments off helicopters.

We don’t have years for a party to come together, identify leaders, establish roots at all levels. We are under full attack, now. If we can’t get a single violent mob together, then the next best step is to metaphorically do it to the DNC so we can at least use its infrastructure and mechanisms to get a new movement going.

I would love to spend real, thoughtful time devising a new form for a new party, but I am not seeing how, beyond being really upset, people think that’s going to simultaneously happen while we get also get the 270 electoral votes behind a single person in just 3 short years, with enough of a charisma lead that the next Jan 6 doesn’t turn into a military coup.

“Why does Schumer keep trying to cave?”

How will we ever find the answer to this complicated question? I mean, if you just assume that he’s compromised trash, and barely better than his GOP colleagues, then everything would be explained, but that obviously can’t be the solution.

barely better than his GOP colleagues

His GOP colleagues are trying to send anyone who’s Mexican to a prison camp and make it illegal to oppose them.

Schumer is a bunch of dog shit smirking in a suit all hunched over like Igor, but they’re not in the same ballpark in terms of the damage they’re doing.

Stop pretending these oligarch lackeys in public office are “caving” or “surrendering” or “giving in”.

They are doing what they are paid to do by their donors.

    Money.

Just a reminder that this past election shows that people are absolutely fed the hell up with the current spinless democratic party. Donate to the progressives, never donate to the DNC and its ilk, and vote for them in the primaries to get these collaborators out of office. The change is happening but like the Beastie Boys say, it takes time to build.

Just hope that these collaborators don’t vote to remove the right to vote because I can see them doing this.

Voters are not fed up with them, they may removed about them at times like these but will defend them tooth and nail come election time. And anyone pointing out what they previously did are lashed out at and accused of trying to get the other team elected. Voters have the memory of dead goldfish

Everyone look up and support Run For Something. Their progressive candidates won many elections couple days ago when we won big. Also they have RFS Feel Good weekly updates detailing all they have accomplishments over the years

Research/Volunteer for them and get people you know would be good candidates to them to be trained!!!

It might be time to rename the Dems to the Controlled Opposition Party (COP). Seems like a nice counterbalance to the GOP.

Schumer is part of an old american politics where there was a cordial relationship between both sides and the cost of sacrificing the interests of the constituents was largely negligible - no one knew what was going on so no one could complain (pre-24hr news cycle and pre infinite news outlets online or in public). Times changed. People notice everything. Schumer is not built for this time where everything he does is under a microscope and where consequences are seen and felt. He is acting as if he can just pretend that things are like they were in the 90s where he can show up, gladhand with donors and his colleagues across the isle, cash a check, work 4 months out of the year, and insider trade. He cant. The problem is that he is also intrinsically part of the democratic party machinery so no one can force him out. He needs to be primaried at a minimum.

He wants the good old days back, when both parties shared equally in the grift and everyone in the political elite understood what the game was and how to keep it running. Schumer gets that to keep the machine running (that has made them all very wealthy and powerful while working about 85 days a year) he’s going to have to go under the boot and take us all with him.
