It’s quite fascinating that, on the one hand they think everything he tries will fail and he won’t achieve any of the things he promised, and at the same time they also think his policies will destroy New York City and all the business will leave.

Well, in a general sense (meaning, to be extra clear, I am not referring to Mamdani specifically), “these ideas won’t accomplish what he intends” and “these ideas will mess everything up” are not mutually exclusive at all. They’re essentially the same sentiment, if you think about it.

I think the confusion is in the incorrect assumption that only the successful execution of a policy/idea/etc. can do the latter, but the same level of damage could easily happen in the course of an ultimately-failed attempt, as well.

That’s enough pedantry from me for now, though, lol.

Sadly, they aren’t all old. The alt-right recruitment drive that’s been running for the last decade or so has borne a lot of fruit.

Millennials are the last generation to not be raised by an algorithm, and also seemingly the only generation that doesn’t get more conservative as they age, so I guess it’s up to us to save the planet.

Millennials are getting more conservative as they age, at least in the US. We thought this might be true during Trump’s first term when the age gap in voter behavior was so large, but millennials were delayed in reaching the wealth milestones like homeownership and to a lesser degree childbirth. We weren’t shut out entirely.

As millennials reach their peak earning power we will get more conservative still. The fact of the matter is that being poor shortens your life and being rich stunts your empathy. Individuals don’t change their politics much. As time passes the poor die off from the generational cohort and leave the rich conservative assholes.

Wealth concentration to the rich will push each succeeding generation left as a greater proportion of people are locked out of wealth accumulation, but that has a few generations to go before the limits and a tip into facism is always possible as we see right now.

      • Tbf, Gen Z just has a more “doomer” mindset, they don’t care anymore, they’d happily vote for a far-right, or even a socialist or a communist. I mean 60% of Americans have a positive view of Socialism. Its not really Gen Z being right wing, they are tired of the current system and is deparate for change, ANY change. So… lets hope they don’t choose change into the wrong direction.

I hope what we take most from this is that 2026, 2028 is NOT “too early” or “too high stakes” for an ACTUAL progressive campaign. The DNC has used that argument 3x with Trump and lost said elections twice (only winning 2020 because Trump bombed w/ Covid-19). I’m certain we’ll hear it again in the next two national elections.

Having a competent populist leftist politician is not a detraction. Quite the opposite. NO to Gruesome Newsom

If Newsom wins the primary I’ll vote for him.

I’ll be donating to AoC’s campaign though.

Just to be very clear, the DNC leadership is antagonistic to our (I assumed) shared goals.

The Democrats are obviously what needs to be supported in a 2 party system, so regardless of the DNC antics, the sacrifice for not choosing them will be more severe, and they know that.

I’m saying this all to say, absolutely support a progressive candidate if you can in the primaries, but when it comes election time, fall in line.

Also, there is a big problem where Mamdani is supremely clever and fast on his feet, having practiced every comeback a million times in the shower, ready to let them rip on command.

At the federal there is no one with that level of natural charisma or wit.

That’s something important to point out.

It would be next to impossible to find a video like the one you’re asking for without MAGA pollutants.

I can name off one thing, his partying with incredibly expensive wine and food at the height of the pandemic after the mask mandates. That was the big thing for me that convinced me he’s a differently colored snake.

Truth be told, I didn’t really know much about his homeless policies at the time. I was very much keeping my head buried as far as I could in whatever I could to avoid everything. This was just the piece of information that managed to reach me that made me think he’s not too good of a guy.

Because you’re right, how he’s ‘helped’ the homeless is absolutely worse.

Fucked over the homeless in Cali, thrown trans people under the bus rhetorically.

He’s not wrong that he has signed a lot of legislation protecting trans Californians, but he’s been going into right wing talk show spaces and nodding soberly saying yeah, you have some good points about their moral panic about us.

Logs into all the public webcams in Portland and sees that everything is fine and, oh my, what a beautiful city.

I don’t know how true this is.

I read recently that when Trump’s speeches have been translated for non-English speakers, they are wildly different than what he is actually saying.

And when bilinguals translate for them directly, they aren’t believed because the literal translation is pants on the head crazy.

The big mistake of 2008 was thinking electing Obama was sufficient. He’d go get it all done from there.

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialist candidate for mayor of New York City, won his race with more than 50% of the vote, even though every prominent right-wing personality including Trump and Musk endorsed his challenger, and millionaires and billionaires throughout the city and the country dumped truckloads of money on Cuomo’s head.

Schumer (like so many DNC fossils) is bought by AIPAC. Isreal doesnt want US politicians that are critical of them.

But, perhaps simpler than that, I think Schumer would hate on Mamdani for free. I think Schumer is (even without money) a staunch Zionist, Islamophobe. Hes definitely anti-progressive and a firm corpo capitalist democrat. All his talk about strength and diversity is just lip service.
