I do not understamd his threat. They have already suspended funding for things in New York before he has been elected.
Also how anyone can be just ok with the president threatening funding in a major city because he doesnt like the candidate is fucking insane. I would say the press should ask every republican in congrsss about this, but they will all say they havent heard or seen what he said and then it will be forgotten in a day.

dem want to tax the rich, repeal citizens united, and give healthcare coverage to all.
That’s just not true though. At no point have dems taken concrete steps towards any of those goals.
Obamacare is the closest they’ve got to any of that and it was explicitly to prevent medicare for all.

I just want to say how grateful I am to have finally come full circle on this after being a voice in the wilderness for sooo long. Litterally Blue MAGA/ BNMW/ ABWD threw the election to fascists and then tried to blame the left. Its so heartening to finally not have to be the only one making this point and to watch it break through into the mainstream.
So, an imaginary candidate is preferred over Newsom, imperfect as he is?

Champion the overtly and successfully progressive when they’re available, and the less progressive to be better.
Here in the real world we need candidates who are electable.

What’s our side here? You say that like I know. Like any of us know. But what side is that? Cuz you keep naming people that are on the corporate side. You mentioned Gavin Newsom being against trans rights and homeless people, but you left out the fact that he’s incredibly Pro corporate. And he’s been a thorn in the side of people trying to regulate corporate overreach. Particularly Tech corporations. He has shown himself hostile to labor. He has showed himself hostile to regulation. He has shown himself hostile to environmental regulations. He has shown himself to be Pro big business. So what side is he on and what side am I on is my question? Like all neoliberals he is an arch capitalist. I am decidedly not. So how the fuck is he on my side?

The saddest thing about this is I think you’re serious. I think you really think these people that have aligned themselves as the servants of the ultra wealthy have your interests at heart. If Trump says you should vote for someone thats an obvious sign they are comprimised and should be removed by force.
This is like a negative endorsement do they have those? A subtraction? If Trump is telling you to vote for a guy, absolutely do not vote for the guy. He has no one but his own interests in mind.
Historically his endorsement results in a net negative for any candidate that he endorses.

Is it too early to talk about the effect on future elections of Trump’s endorsement being negative? R candidates in purple states starting to jump ship soon?
It something that’s been noted since his first term.
He tends to suck away the oxygen from the rest of the party. Republicans in primaries that he’s endorsed have lost. Then he switches endorsements to whomever won, and that candidate barely wins in a district that should have been an easy R win. Also, several state level GOP organizations are struggling for funds and are on the verge of bankruptcy. All the donor money is going to the Trump organization specifically, and he doesn’t share. That’s as close to literally sucking the oxygen away as you can get in politics.
In a very real way, the GOP is no longer a functioning party at all. The mechanisms of mutual support are not there, and that’s the nuts and bolts of what a political party in a democracy does. To succeed at the federal level, they must build the state level. They aren’t. They can’t, because they gave too much power to a self-absorbed idiot. Sauron put too much power in the One Ring, and now it’s a vulnerability.
It’s not just that they are undermining democracy. They have no way of functioning in a democracy.
It’s quite clear that they only way the GOP wins the midterms is cheating. They know it, we know it. For it to be anything else, Trump would have to behave like someone other than Trump.
