Whatever Tyler Robinson’s personal beliefs were is irrelevant
I hate that they have us playing this game, we can agree that murder is wrong without venerating Charlie Kirk and without throwing a group of people under the bus, because if we wanted to play that game… well we don’t need Tyler Robinson.
But, of course, none of that really matters because it’s not really about who’s right or wrong. It’s about them having an excuse to kill people they disagree with.
Conservatism is always about giving people an other, and in this case the other is defined as anyone who stands in their way, and they’re pointing them at us with a gun.
Because at the end of the day the only real Us and Them is the rich and the poor and they know it so they keep us busy fighting a culture war so we don’t fight the class war.
What happened in 2016?
we can agree that murder is wrong
Across the board? Fuck no, we can’t.
The only thing that gives an idea about the motive or ideology of the killer are what was inscribed on the bullets. The inscriptions on the bullets link him to 4chan groypers. However, the dude didn’t vote in the past two elections. I can’t really make sense of it. But I agree, the far right is trying really hard to paint the guy as a lefty, claiming that he was in a relationship with his MTF roommate. I can’t find a credible source to verify this, I’m only seeing that argument posted on Fox and Newsmax.
But I agree, the far right is trying really hard to paint the guy as a lefty, claiming that he was in a relationship with his MTF roommate.
The existence of such a “relationship” has only come from the mouth of UT Gov Spencer Cox, without any more detail than that, and then been repeated from there. Even if we take that as “bible truth”, let’s not forget about Grindr usage spikes at Republican conventions.
Grindr usage spikes during ANY major event like those. You could have a Lesbian (is Grindr just for men? I’m assuming it is else my example is not really working) conference and the usage would spike. It’s just the population of the city increasing due to the event. There are journalist, and countless people flying in that are their to support the event infrastructure that don’t actually belong to that events “group”. And, ya know, literally people driving/flying into the city, and staying in the city, to protest the event.
Sorry. I’m being autistic. There are definitely gay Republicans on Grindr. But it’s not really a useful statistic looked at in a vacuum.
You would assume there are less gay republicans than gay democrats given their policies, yet republican conventions spike Grindr as much as normal conventions. That in itself is telling.
Again, unless you have more statistics that’s not telling you anything about the demographic of the Republican convention on its own. It’s making the assumption that all conventions bring the same crowds by percentage. Republican conventions bring a uniquely larger crowd in the form of protests. Much larger than a Democrat convention (well, before the genocide).
Also, major cities have multiple conventions and events every weekend. Likely enough that the population related to any given Republican convention would likely only be a fraction of the total. Even for events as large as their Major ones like CPAC, etc.
I know many LGBTQ organizations align their events WITH the Republican conventions to bring in more support for protest.
So, again, there is just not enough statistics on it to conclude anything. Sorry, this really doesn’t matter. Republicans are still hypocrites and assholes. But my math autism just hates bad conclusions from insufficient statistics.
I didn’t consider the protests and counter events when thinking of the demographic spike with republican events. You are right, there are too many factors to consider before reaching a simple conclusion.
Thank you for reading my pointless rant. Always satisfying when I actually get my point across and am not just misunderstood.
Republicans aren’t really worth defending. I think I care because the “every Republican is actually gay” is kinda homophobic in a sense. I’d say the relationship with pedophilia and Republicans is significantly less circumstancial though. But that’s a rant for another time.
Considering he lived with his parents that mrf roommate shit seems a little sus.
Yeah, it’s not Alabama.
Considering that the inscriptions on the bullets were anti fascist, wouldn’t right wingers calling him a leftist be admitted that their ideology is fascist?
It’s too early to tell his current political affiliation or motivation. The right is saying he was dating his trans roommate and pissed at Kirk’s anti-trans stance. The left is saying he was so far right that he believed Kirk was too liberal. Everything is speculation. The only people with thorough knowledge of his motives are the investigators.
I think you give to much credit to the investigators. Most of the decent ones got fired and this episode shows that competence isn’t their greatest asset.
The only people with thorough knowledge of his motives are the investigators.
Well, and the killer, one would think.

Well, one of those is base speculation by a guy who was praying it was done by an immigrant and the other is informed speculation based off hard evidence that had been released publicly. I’ll let you figure out which is which.
Well, it looks like the right was correct based off of the text messages.
Whether he’s right or left, he was radicalized by what he heard from the right.
How do you know?
Edit: stop being Reddit, Lemmy! You don’t down vote someone for wanting to know more information lmao. Asking a legitimate question, wtf.
A direct quote from that source:
While there is no clear evidence yet that Tyler Robinson was a formal member of Fuentes’ community, a Facebook photo suggests he engaged with Groyper memes.
I wouldn’t say that is conclusive he was a groyper. Seems we still don’t have enough evidence to figure out what his leanings where
“Their memes”? The only thing from the bullet casings that links to groypers is maybe Bella ciao. This doesn’t read like it was written by someone who knows what they are talking about.
I like how the headline of that article already has him convicted before they have any evidence, or an actual conviction. But in the first paragraph they say he’s a suspect. Gotta get them clicks amirite.
I’m not right-wing, but I do believe in justice, and I know what that looks like. I haven’t seen it yet in this case.
Got a better link? That mobile site is 100% convinced I have an ad blocker.
The entire political landscape has been radicalized by the right.
The far right hears what they say and agree.
The far left hears what they say and are threatened.
The moderates (left and right) hear what they say and are desensitized.
The centrists hear what they say and become apathetic. The Dems/left are trying to convince people to give a shit, but not so much that they get violent.
🤷♂️ I don’t know if any of this is true, but alright. (I’m from Europe.)
I read an article in a conservative comm that was tripping all over itself to say he was leftist. Have you heard the roommate was trans? Better mention that 3 times. Groyper? Obviously that means he was far left and far right simultaneously.
Total misuse/misunderstanding of the meme, FYI. It’s supposed to represent straining/restraining.
Do you have a list of where these meme rules are? I ducked-ducked-went, and gargled, but no dice.
Some sources when I googled “straining vein kid in class”
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/trying-to-hold-a-fart-next-to-a-cute-girl-in-class
https://imgflip.com/memetemplate/85497783/Bulging-Forehead-Vein
interview with the actual person https://www.dailydot.com/unclick/kid-blowing-up-meme-interview/
So the kid can only strain if he’s only holding farts, and not refraining from screaming?
Is there an appeal process? I’m asking bc you seem well-meme-versed.That’s fine if that’s what you were going for, but then it should be written as “Trying not to scream while watching a right-wing man kill another right-wing man at a right-wing event at a right wing college- etc.” Then the bottom text could read “While they blame left-wing extremism.”
The current formatting makes it look like the kid is somehow the one angry at left wing extremists.
It’s not a big deal, but worth pointing out imo.
Cheers!

Lol, I got to know this in a slightly different context. Note the absent hands.
