I remember even smoking in cars and using their ashtrays. Filling them up with butts and scooting them around or compacting the ash to make room for “just one more” because I “didn’t have the time” to dump it out into a parking lot yet. I spent a long time not thinking that cigarette trash was garbage. It just seemed like it was a necessary part of daily life and that whatever was done in support of keeping it coming and not thinking much about it was entirely excusable and normal. I remember my parents smoking on airplanes.
Old luxury cars are the bomb. My girlfriend has an 84 Cadillac Eldorado project that has a cig lighter and ash tray for every seat - which is awesome on road trips when everyone wants a device charger. Plus they’re super super comfortable. Even on old suspension it feels like riding on a floating couch.
Now if only the engine swap we did could keep any of its engine oil inside the oil pan, it’d be great…
My grandfather’s car ashtrays in the back were absolutely packed with my garbage as a kid. Sorry Papa.
slaps car this baby can hold so many candy wrappers!
OK I remembered them, but the memories didn’t flood back until I read this. I was definitely stuffing them with my trash

Yes they were. My grandfather had an old Lincoln town car and he smoked like a train and the driver ash tray was always full. And he would drive with the driver window open even if it was snowing or raining and the water would get into the ash tray and omg! The door below the tray looked like an oil spill.
Yes pretty much. As a bad visual if me or my sister were misbehaving as kids we would be made to clean the door ash tray and grandpas ash tray next to the bed. 🤮
My parents had an '88 Marquis that had cigarette lighters in the back doors. On a road trip as a kid, I learned how quickly those lighters heat up: pretty fast. Don’t test it yourself.
Ha my mom had a Cadillac, pretty sure even the same year, and my little brother also found out the hard way about those lighters.
I can still feel the pulsing pain of the burn on my finger.
Oh yea, coin storage for the toll roads xD
Shit. I forgot about those

The comment got deleted between when I read it and upvoted it but now I’m curious if any modern cars, maybe in other countries besides the US have ashtrays included standard? They were saying they’d seen an Audi model that had one as late as 2017? Which might be true, I don’t get in Audis often but they always have a lot of doohickeys
If you were fast, there was a neat trick where you could use them as a bottle opener too.
And some actually did just straight up have bottle openers.
Idk about this one, although it does look like it is, but some were removable, so you could clean them and more easily use that nub to open bottles.
If you’re in the back seat of a Tesla, you’d better look at those things real carefully.
In the event of power loss (in the event of a crash and subsequent fire perhaps), the only way out will be to disassemble that and pull the release cable.
I suppose you’ll need an exotic screwdriver to disassemble it?
