The Israeli air defense system is far from impenetrable as we saw from the last Israeli Iranian war when Israel was repeatedly rocked by Iranian missiles. The air defense can be overloaded by saturation attacks and are unreliable/unable to stop hypersonic missiles which Iran does possess.
When Israel attacked Iran last year they did not expect Iran’s response to be as effective as it turned out to be and needed to ask the Americans for help. This time the Israelis made sure to have US back up from the beginning.

Seems like the interception missile hit the incoming missile but failed to destroy it in the air.
One of the problems when you blow stuff up in the air is that it doesn’t stay up there.
I think intercepting missiles explode when they are as close as they will get, and probably just didn’t have the right trajectory.
