I’ll never understand why someone could actually want to put effort into dividing the American populace from the America military right now

Like, even if you don’t know about how many non US citizens are in the US military…

It’s seems obvious that the better plan would be getting military on the side of the populace and not the fascists rather than driving the military towards the fascists.

I’ve been trying to figure out a reason for a while, because these posts aren’t uncommon.

But I can’t come up with a reason that wouldn’t be against civility rules if I posted it.

The issue is congress really. They have the power to stop anything the President does. Sadly too many Republicans are loyal to Trump alone and not the regular people.

Only hope is a flip in the midterm and Trump gets neutered. We’ll see.

Which is “kind of” the reason we should be getting the military on the side of the people and not chasing them into the arms of fascism because they have nowhere else to go…

        Like, fucking obviously man…

What you’re saying is the reason I said what I said in the first place.

        Only hope

That is not the “only” hope, it’s the most pain free “good” option. Saying because that option exists means we out all our eggs in that basket, is even dumber than literally putting all our eggs in one basket.

We can’t just kick our heels up and hope this works, we work on this and the next 27 different plans that would sequentially be the least painfree while arriving at the “good” result.

I dunno, I’m just venting. It’s fucking depressing that every comment is a choice between “too long no one will read” and “if you don’t mention everything obvious, you’ll have to later”.

Because you can never trust or rely on an ally who’s on your side because you are being nice to them instead of because they have some kind of scruples.

It’s no better than say, sucking up to someone with a peace award in the hopes they don’t start a war.

I didn’t say that, and I’ll thank you not to put words in my mouth. Also not to be a dick, but I’ll settle for the first one

What I SAID was, specifically changing your behavior to gain the support of someone whose loyalties are so flaky that they’ll change sides because of your behavior in the first place is a pointless exercise.

            I didn’t say that

No, that’s how quoting works, you literally said:

Because you can never trust or rely on an ally who’s on your side because you are being nice to them instead of because they have some kind of scruples.

It’s no better than say, sucking up to someone with a peace award in the hopes they don’t start a war.

You said it’s one or the other.

And now you’re saying that people shouldnt have went by the literal words you typed, you’ve retroactively changed what you meant because that rationalize is easier than admitting you were wrong.

I hope you stop imitating our president someday, but I’ll never know. Because you just get belligerent like he does too, and I’m not dealing with that shit.

No, actually, this is how quoting works. See how, quite literally, they never said it was one or the other? You just made that up.

YOU, on the other hand, quoted them, then put words in their mouth that they didn’t say. And I can quote that here.

You said it’s one or the other.

It’s seems obvious that the better plan would be getting military on the side of the citizens and not the fascists rather than driving the military towards the fascists.

That’s the better plan, as long as they’re willing to denounce American imperialism. If criticizing the imperialism they’re cooperating with is enough to push them away, then they’re less than worthless as an ally. Also some of us aren’t American and don’t care about the health of liberal democracy in your murderous neocolonial empire.

Trump already gutted most of the senior leadership in the American military that wouldn’t dance to his tune. Plus the American military already has a bunch of right leaning uneducated idiots that are more than willing to ‘just follow orders’.

I wouldn’t expect anything much out of them honestly. Like most things what Americans portray and what they do is pretty different. It’s just a couple steps away from calling themselves the Democratic Republic of America.

I did see that, and that doesn’t preclude me talking to you, just as I’m sure OP didn’t personally invite you to a closed conversation. This is how a social setting works, and if you get all butthurt to the degree that you get snarky and defensive when other people than you intended have opinions about your opinions then you are overly sensitive, and I thought you deserved to have that pointed out for you. Thanks for the well-wishing, sir.

To give you a perspective from outside the USA: Trump was elected the first time in 2016. Ten years ago. So if you’re a young person currently enlisted in the army, you did enlist voluntarily under Trump1. Or under Biden where you could see for years that that could mean serving under another MAGA presidency. Or maybe you did enlist under Trump2. So yeah, why shouldn’t everybody make fun of those fools who are voluntarily risking their lives for that?
