It could be a whole host of reasons to be fair.

I’m pretty bad about letting my grass get long, but the only reason I would ever mow before 10 am is because I don’t want to get too hot.

I had an electric mower, I always hated the cord and it was a real cheap thing with a very small footprint.

It got the job done, but instead of taking 15 minutes it took me 30.

I’ll invest in a nicer electric one once my current gas powered one dies for sure.

Anecdotal, but the only lawn mower I can hear of my 3 neighbors is the electric one. The noise it makes is the worst drone and it pierces.

  • As a night shift Psych nurse basically my entire job is re-tuning people’s circadian rhythms. For this specific situation I recommend getting used to sleeping to a loud white noise with a fair amount of variation in pitches / “texture” I guess? The more different noises it has the better it covers random environmental noises.

My go-to is usually a raging thunderstorm with lots of lightning cracks and rumbling thunder. There’s very few things that doesn’t drown out and it should only take a week or two to get used to sleeping to whatever soundtrack you pick (think about how long it takes to get used to sleeping somewhere new when you move).

For extra oomph it can help to bring in your other senses as well. Essential oils may not cure cancer but they make excellent Pavlovian conditioning cues.

Remember kids, the biggest difference between you and Pavlov’s dogs is that you get to choose what you get trained to do!

Biomass has been successfully decimated, while excess carbon has been ejected into the atmosphere. A win for all involved!

I used to mow starting no later than 830. I did it because that the only way to get done before it gets stupid hot.

Now I pay someone to do it and they typically do it Sunday afternoons.

A lot of different industries need 24 hour operations. I work in telecom and we don’t shut the internet down at night.

Yeah, I’ll start making major changes on this active system people are actively using while they are actively using it. Or… I could do it at 10pm when they’re all in bed and won’t write me nastygrams about interrupting their workflow.

I’m also thinking of things like roadworks, where you can either have land closures when folks are out and about or at night when there are fewer folks on the road and working with hot asphalt is less hot.

There are also some processes that need to be done at a certain temperature, like thermite welding rail (skip to like 4:00). So, either you air condition the railroads or you weld when the outside temperature is right.

You don’t do major changes regularly/every night, updates can be automated/performed on the weekends. Or you can do them during the normal working hours but also inform the users about the maintenance work by mail/push notifications. At work we use a service that provides notifications with times and dates about any possible downtimes.

I guess I should’ve made a more narrow remark and add that only unnecessary night labor must be banned - I used to work on a production that required intensive manual labor with 8AM-8PM and 8PM-8AM shifts and the only reason for the 8PM-8AM shifts was to make production more efficient by sacrificing the workers’ health, although I know some people who love working at night and don’t care that they look 74 in their 50’s.
