So it’s OK to gerrymander the fuck out of your state in order to disenfranchise people, but it’s not OK to protest such anti-democratic acts. Got it.

Pulling quorum is an ancient tactic. Republicans in OR were doing it last year to block climate change legislation so voters passed a law saying that anyone who’s missed more than X sessions is ineligible for re-election. 10 I think?

So it’s worth noting that Rs do this more often, for bad causes, and when they do Ds respond within the bounds of the law, rather than with blatantly illegal moves.

      Its how it always is.

X thing is always important and useful, as long as Republicans can use it against society, the second Democrats use it against Republicans suddenly its vile evil that should never be permitted.

what are the charges? Serious replies only plz

      That’s just cruel. Succulently cruel.

But in seriousness the charges are irrelevant, the fascists are long past pretending to care about the rule of law.

      FTA:

Paxton in 2021 won a state Supreme Court ruling allowing the arrest of legislators — Democrats by definition of the state’s partisan mix — who broke quorum.

Probably obstruction of governmental process or however they phrase it there. It won’t stick after appeal but seems pretty likely to be a kangaroo court type dealio to get them out real quick.

Even weirder they’re civil so probably some policy violation they’re trying to make a felony but trying to charge civilly which isn’t how anything works and anytime who’s seen schoolhouse rock should probably be aware of it.

What’s sad is, you dont see Texas MAGA out in force on this. Why? This is in your face crushing democracy for a washed up reality TV star. Why isn’t the whole state up in arms?

MAGA can spit anything they want, but if it benefits them, they will turn their head to just about anything.

Pedophiles? It’s ok on my team. - MAGA Government corruption? Fine when we have power. Cut funding for our MAGA elders? Sure, if it hurts the left, I’ll die watching it.

True cancer is the MAGA movement and everything it stands for. History will show that MAGA moved the US into a failed state.

It’d be pretty cool if the host state governments provided tactical team protection to those politicians. Designate VIP; protect.

As a Bostonian, I’d fully back using the MA NG, staties (the unusually flagrantly corrupt embezzling fucks they are), BPD, or whatever else, under state authority, to protect political refugees from a hostile US State.

Not to mention the Texas Rangers don’t have jurisdiction anywhere outside of Texas. They’d be essentially coming in and acting as vigilantes. No other states should be ok with that kind of usurping of power on their soil or it’s a really fucking slippery slope.

All that needs to be done is have a governor of a state that these lawmakers flee to say “if the texas rangers enter our state, they will be executed without trial.”
