We Need To Talk About Kevin
What would you do if you found out your kid was completely evil?

Prisoners
How would you handle your entire world collapsing?

Jesus Camp
Lets brainwash our youth in the name of righteousness.
Thanks, gonna get these to watch soon.
Prisoners is one of my favorite movies of any genre.
It is excellent! And one of the many great things about it is, the stakes just keep getting higher and higher until the final scene.

War of the Worlds - the Stephen Spielberg one with Tom Cruise. The scene where they arrive at the ferry in the only working car anyone has seen in the last couple days, and the mob starts destroying it trying to get in and tear them out; the one guy slicing up his hands and face just to get the vehicle, all the other people climbing in when the daughter is still buckled in and can’t get out… It sends me into a hyper-fight-or-flight.
There are a few scenes that stuck out to me as disturbing in that movie. One was that night, right after the tripods attacked the crowded ferry dock. The family made it out of there to a hill overlooking the bay and we get that wide shot of distant crowds of people below being herded down the hill like frightened cattle. The tripods pick away at them, some try to swim away, while the family on the hill can only hide and watch from the bushes.
The other was when they spent the night in that basement and woke up to soft rain pitter-pattering on the window. It’s almost peaceful, only it wasn’t rain, it was blood from the animals pureed for terraforming. That moment of realization just felt so tactile and real.
I like that it’s ambiguous how much time they spent in that basement. At first you think it’s only a couple days, then when you think about it you realize it may have been more like a week or more.
Kids
I tried to watch that again for the first time in about 27 years. I felt like I might be put on a list, if my neighbors peeped my TV through my window.
The Notebook
An obsessive, relentless stalker won’t take no for an answer, eventually gets the girl but she escapes only to find herself once again in his grasps alienating her from friends, family, and most importantly, her fiance (husband? Can’t remember). This absolute psychopath remodeled an entire house as his shrine to her never losing focus even after years of her escape! Obsessing daily he wrote her letters everyday for a year that her family rightfully hid from his victim.

Melania
A Horrible Woman.
There probably are worse movies out there, but I always like to give this movie its flowers.
It’s a Danish film about a couple who meet, fall in love and begin living together. The woman in the relationship turns out to be a passive aggressive manipulator, who slowly takes over his life and essentially holds him hostage in the relationship.
It freaked me the fuck out the first time I watched it, because I have been in an abusive relationship in the past with a man who was also very manipulative and verbally abusive. It’s the type of invisible abuse that gradually chips away at who you are and it is very hard to stop it once the ball starts rolling.
They have the nerve to call it a black comedy, haha. It’s genuinely so uncomfortable because the woman in the movie is unpredictable at all times and the actress plays her masterfully.
Requiem for a Dream
For me it’s gotta be Deer Hunter. Saw it as a kid and it still fucks me up
