That dilemma stems from newly proposed USPS rules that seek to comply with an executive order President Donald Trump signed this spring to crack down on mail-in voting. If courts let the order stand, it would give the federal government an unprecedented role in elections — and could put even more voter data in the hands of Trump officials searching for supposed election fraud.

Watching the wildly slow ramp up to a breakup of the US in whatever form it takes is agonizing, shits been coming for a hot minute and we’ve blown by the few potential off-ramps.

My money is on a Balkan style civil war

Personally I think we’ll see a civil war for a bit but it’ll burn out relatively quickly due to lack of fuel, then we may see a troubles like situation for a bit in some regions.

The troubles is my second most likely bet, being real I had figured there would be more outrage and action already so my predictions may be tainted by hope in humanity

I think at this point we’re on this weird razor edge of instability where everything is going to shit but it isn’t quite bad enough to outright cause the whole thing to collapse, so everyone is sitting around just kinda waiting. Personally I subscribe to the addage “The fall of empire is slow until it’s not” so this type of shit was always a distinct possibility. I do think there’s a chance shit will come to a head either when the stock market implodes or when something unseen kicks in and causes issues.

Yeah I don’t disagree at all, I think I underestimated how placated the American public(myself included) were and how much that would drive us to just keep on with our daily routines. Eventually something will break but I can’t see what might be anymore. Gas prices and the midterms will be interesting indicators, $7 a gallon in Tennessee or the like might cause something in rural areas while election denial claims if the DNC wins big in November could prompt a crisis on the state gov level. But limbo is where we are right now for sure

Honestly if I’m being completely realistic it probably won’t be a major thing that kicks off balkanization or whatever but moreso a straw that broke the camels back type thing. It could very well be something stupid like Trump dying and the power struggle on the right ripping apart whatever little internal cohesion remains. Or it could just be just a police shooting and subsequent protest spiraling into a succession crises followed by balkanization.

Regardless of what the turning point is I feel it’s locked in at this point in some form

You mean like a reverse of German and Italian unification? Just become a bunch of individual principalities and city states? Might not be so bad so long as we get rid of Peter Thiel and his dark enlightenment buddies first
