I am, once again, reminded of why I hate living in a walkable area of a car-centric country. We even have a pedestrian stoplight near where I live, and after I hit the button and it goes red I still have to wait and make sure the cars actually stop, because all too many times someone’s zoomed through and nearly hit me or one of my dogs.

    Drivers are entitled assholes.

      they are indeed.

I’d rather see a beg button for cars and not pedestrians, where the driver gets to the red light, gets out, and has to push the button and the default is for pedestrians .

Headline reminds me of pop sci clickbait: Scientists confirm in new breakthrough study what everyone with eyeballs already knew to be true.

The alternative is everyone spouting bullshit based on “common sense” and anecdotal evidence

Agreed, though DOTs generally already have this data through other means like radar and tire pressure sensor surveys.

A lot of car drivers think that the speed limit is what you’re supposed to drive. I’ve even met driving school instructors who tell you that you should drive at the speed limit.

With that attitude, you’re constantly going to exceed the speed limit (not to mention unnecessarily waste fuel by braking every time you go 1 above it).

I usually set the cruise control to 10 below the speed limit.
