    Best case scenario is this provides the hard data showing how dangerous this is and it serves as a real deterrent against adoption elsewhere.

    Worst case, is that it’s so effective at chilling public discussion that it becomes a blueprint for everywhere.

    Should this become reality, hate groups won’t even need to doxx people anymore. The law will do it for them.

          This is my old account that was banned by the over zelous turdz at programming.dev. I would just like that to be known. Also the capitalist have a global network. They are poking and proding to see what they can get away with… The best solution is understand how you leak data and how to stop them from extracting that data. Finding and creating platforms to go around the corpos and their tyranny. If people keep banning each other they will win. That is all I got to say about that.

    And this is so problematic. First of all, there’s really a chilling effect going on with putting your real identity to your online posts. I’m not sure if I would be posting on here if everybody could link my profile here to my real name. There is a reason why people are not discussing depression, drug use, or marital problems with their work colleagues or neighbors. And people really would not like if prospective employers could see everything they are writing online.

    There’s also a chilling effect on political debate. You really do not want your home address being available to violent Neo-Nazis, Hamas supporters, Covid-deniers and other idiots. That will lead to harassment and this will lead to people stopping discussing certain topics.

    Have these people actually ever compared the anonymous internet with the named internet? Facebook is flooded with bigots and idiots that readily spout racist and hateful words, with their full name in plain sight. Meanwhile, anonymous places like Reddit are far better moderated (yes, I know we hate on reddit here but it is much better moderated than Facebook). Same applies to most of the fediverse.

    I suspect these people haven’t actually used these anonymous places on the internet much. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
