Two-thirds of Americans say that the country is “pretty seriously off on the wrong track,” while just under a third say the country is moving in the right direction, according to an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll conducted using Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel.

Overall, Americans seem unhappy and anxious, with a slim majority saying the economy has gotten worse since President Donald Trump took office and majorities saying that both major parties and the president are out of touch. A majority of Americans are also growing increasingly concerned over the government shutdown.

‘bbbuttt… Harris said she’d continue bidens policies!! Waaahhhhh! The parties didn’t field realistic candidates that matched my expectations! It’s the politicians fault!! It’s the systems fault!’

Trump said he’d do much worse, and here we are. Happy yet, sit-outs and ballot spoilers? Ready to take your elections seriously?

Do you really think the media is doing a good job of getting accurate and fair information to voters in an impartial way? Could we improve our electoral system to make it easier and more convenient for working people to vote?

So maybe instead of blaming people as individuals for failing to meet a systemic and worsening series of problems we should expect that our political leaders have some sort of plan for restoring democracy in a way that combats republican corruption.

Characterizing it this way does not give people a realistic impression of what happened in 2024.

Of voting eligible population the % voting went up from 2016 to 2020 and down from 2020 to 2024. You absolutely can connect voter turnout to this problem as well as increasing barriers to voting.

They voted conservative, what did they expect?

If you want your life to get better, you vote left, if you want it to get worse, you vote right.

We’ve got the whole 20th century as evidence of this

I’m in the top bracket, tax me more, the world gets better when you do

But also, frankly maybe tax wealth over work.

Work is productive to society, wealth is parasitic.

Property values (sensibly) go down with appropriate wealth tax.

There another option, you believe only the local rich employer can help you.

Grew up in a small town with only one big employer. If they said bigger taxes would mean layoffs, will the town hated the idea of bigger taxes., because the employer was seen as the only things keeping a respectable and comfortable lifestyle possible in the community.

Welfare was both inadequate and shameful, and other than that, they didn’t see upside to government spending. The big projects they see were things like building a big bypass for a big city to have better traffic. Meanwhile all the infrastructure spending closer to home was less dramatic. The roads thanklessly kept drivable without any dramatic news coverage. The local medical center kept afloat by federal spending without anyone really highlighting that. Easy to make the narrative that big government takes your money and gives it to city folk, and anything the employer does to the community is forced by big bad government.

Yes, when the rich get a flat tax and you’re taxed at the same rate as people earning millions a year. (You’re already in a higher bracket than the very wealthy, since they pay capital gains taxes and use tricks like borrowing money instead of selling stocks to get cash.)

The entire premise of his comment is that no action has been taken as of the poll’s release.

This recent poll, obviously, does not represent opinion going back to 2016. Trump is president because a lot of stupid people either voted for or refused to vote against him.

Acting like anything can be done instantaneously as a result of a poll proves that it’s not only Americans that have their share of stupid people.

I know what I’m about to say may get reactionary downvotes, but I think the answer is not overconfidence.

Let’s get real. Jan 2021 until Dec 2024 was a rough time all around. Starting with COVID, then the supply chain disruptions that brought, then the bird flu with chickens and the impact on the cost of eggs, and Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and the global impact on energy costs, and not to mention the whole rent-seeking, profit-taking megacorpo bullshit we’re still living with, people struggled from 2021 through 2024. This struggle was what caused the Shitgibbon to win more than any overconfidence.

Democrats did themselves no favours, either. When Biden ran against the Shitgibbon, people got the impression he was a caretaker POTUS, someone who would stand up for Democracy in 2020 then run as a Lame Duck until 2024, when Team Blue would select the next generation for POTUS. Unfortunately, nobody stood up. Harris was invisible, and not the attack dog I expected her to be. None of the other Democrats stepped up, either. It was business as usual, not the ‘Democracy in danger’ moment they were portraying it as.

And their handling of Trump? Absolute dogshit. Trump skated on his 6 Jan 2021 crimes, and Death may well take him before Justice does. And obviously, the Dems wouldn’t let him skate if what he did was so bad, right? That’s what many voters, especially low information voters, think about the whole situation.

So, Fall 2024 rolls in, and you’re the typical American voter: a knucklehead who can’t see anything that’s not directly in front of you, pulled a thousand different directions, and trying to decide what to mark on your ballot for President. Eggs are ridiculously expensive. So are so many other essential groceries. High fuel costs are still in the back of your mind. Your kids are duller and dumber thanks to missing the '21-'22 and '22-'23 school years, and you remember missing your friends at Church, the weekly hangout, and work/school those years. And man, those Dems said that Trump was a threat to Democracy and needed to be gotten out of office so America didn’t die or such shit, then 4 years of doing jack and shit and he’s back running for office, and you remember that groceries were affordable and you could fill up your car for cheap when Trump was in office, and now you can’t do any of that, and so you say “Hey, how bad can he really be?” and you vote for him. 77.3 other knuckleheads join you for various reasons, including looking forward to the American Reich and putting those upity minorities back in their place, and bam. Trump 2.0. As the old saying goes, consider how stupid the average American is, then remember that half of Americans are dumber than the average American.

At least now, Trump’s shortcomings are front and centre for a lot of American voters; enough so that 2/3rds of them are saying “yeah, we fucked up putting the Shitgibbon and his Merry Band of Miscreants back in.” Small victories!

If the last 10 years have proven anything, it’s that Americans are REEEEEEAAAAALLY fucking stupid.

Whether the majority of America disapproves of this fascist or not, it’s a nation of dimwits and we’re going to keep voting against ourselves. It’s why we’re here to begin with. Trump didn’t make any of this happen. He’s a fucking idiot. We did it to ourselves, because too many of us are beyond stupid.

Sorry for being a downer, but I expect this ship to keep sinking for the remainder of my life. I’ve seen too much stupid to believe otherwise.

*Randy looks out the window to see a 93 year old grandmother being slowly chased and tackled by a 340 pound limp-jogging, hyperventilating, otherwise unemployable 32 year old virgin in a balaclava in 90 degree heat and desert camo vest in the middle of the suburbs. His tactical armor vest, which was sold to him with a cardboard plate that he thinks is bulletproof, also has the word “fedirel” spelled wrong on the name plate. On the bottom, he wears Buffalo bills sweatpants with the logo colored in with black sharpie.

*Randy goes back to polling agency’s phone call

“You know, I’m starting to think the country might be approaching the possibility of entering the wrong track eventually, maybe… If this keeps up for another 12-15 years, things could start to potentially get a little bleak… Uh huh, no I don’t mind sharing that info with you, I am what they call an undecided voter cuz I ain’t one a these liberal sheeps”

Most Americans say country is on the wrong track, blame Trump for inflation, disapprove of the president and say he is going too far to expand power of presidency

Democrats: “Oh shit, this is actually working, quick, find 8 fall guys to let the budget pass!”

(yes, that is really happening- 8 democrats have broken with the party and said they would be willing to vote for it.)

Gotta get past that whole “Two-thirds” because it’s that one-third that voted for him and elected him to office.
