I’m confused about who this post is really aimed at. Personally I don’t know anyone who suddenly decided that trump is a bad person because of this one latest act of draconian nonsense.
I fundamentally disagree with this kind of take. If someone is having their ‘oh shit’ moment because a mainstream media figure is being targeted by the regime, that’s good. Don’t dunk on them for not reacting sooner just to make yourself feel cooler than ‘the libs.’
the best time to start protesting against the fascist takeover of our government was 40 years ago. the second best time is today
You know what, I’m guilty of this exact thing. I’ve been pissed because this has been obviously fascism for sometime now, and it angers me how much it feels like I’m one of the few who paid attention to history while the ignoramuses acted like I was overreacting.
However the truth is you’re right. I turned my anger on late coming allies and vented my frustration unfairly in their direction. Ultimately it’s better late than never and every ally counts in the fight against fascism. After all a lot of us are about to die, or worse.
We’re saturated in information and it’s easy to see so many sources. Some people do accidentally find themselves in echo chambers but you won’t much hear of them because they don’t go online often.
It’s anyone on this planet’s job to follow news and be connected with how their country is being run. You don’t need to be a political scientist or economist but if a US citizen who was being responsible only just now figured out that something is wrong they are objectively pretty stupid. Stupid doesn’t mean undeserving of love or security or anything like that but oh my god do not tell me I’m the bad guy for being so fucking tired of this shit.
I disagree with it as well but man is it hard not being mean to these kinds of people. Like, they literally deserve it.
I’m not sure we can understand the information environment folks are livin in enough to be confident making fun of how they see things.
It’d be like going to North Korea and making fun of locals for being pro Kim Jong Un. It’s just a bit in poor taste.
Edit: grammar
I don’t think I can agree with that logic when literally one Internet search could course correct these people on most of the issues they are choosing to be on the wrong side of. They don’t want to know what the truth is because it doesn’t fit their emotional narrative.
I find that to be a very weak argument.
Say I make fun of a racist. If they’re just a poor propagandized individual who finally realizes their act, should I not shame them? Should I not ensure that they realize the depth of their behavior, the depth of their shame?
Shrugs I like to keep records. I don’t like letting people off the hook after they shit the bed and force everyone else to clean it up while they figure out they don’t like how it smells. I think that’s weak behavior and a big part of the reason we’re here today.
Edit: I’m ok with letting children off the hook. Kids are fucking dumb.
Fwiw I think you’re correct. Everyone else wants to keep being nice to these morons. I say rub their face in it.
Hard disagree. The US is cooked. Arguably it’s been cooked since the election, but there was a world in which the US public banded together and blocked the regime from taking any effective action. But now that Trump has consolidated power and set all kinds of precedents that fascism will be answered by nothing crickets and ass-licking, there’s no stopping him through legal means anymore.
So please allow me to regard these “oh shit it that bad?? :((” people with the highest level of disgust and contempt. I don’t owe fascist enablers anything. Just like I don’t owe anything but contempt to the Germans who woke up a morning of 1936 and realized “hey guys maybe we fucked it”.
right, and so your proposed solution is to drive the people who had their realisation away, so the strategy of divide and conquer can continue to bear fruit? makes sense…
I don’t owe anyone, anything. Least of all a “you tried” gold star for failing at even the bare minimum.
This random thread on one of the least conservative and most politically-engaged parts of the internet is not somewhere that I’m expecting to find or engage with one of these hypothetical schmucks. I’m merely venting my contempt for them.
There is no “divide and conquer” strategy by the way. That’s just something you made up. Divided into what and what? The politically active left hasn’t really changed course and everyone else just. doesn’t. give. a. single. flying. fuck. that their country is being run into the ground by a literal demented fascist.
I don’t know what the winning strategy is but it certainly doesn’t involve convincing the people who are so far disconnected from reality that they just realized that Trump is a fascist. WW3 will break out long before anyone convinces even a single one of these clueless morons to take meaningful action.
Having a mainstream media figure and placing them on pedestals are how you got to this situation in the first place and not just once, but twice.
But hey, continue playing on that theatre.
“Kimmel for president 2028”
If they actually start caring about the people being killed and having massive violence done of then they are very late and that shows a major lack of empathy but sure as long as they don’t only talk about when rich white men are affected.
I wasn’t able to edit my post but I wanted to post an addendum so I deleted it and now I’m reposting it with the addendum and a bunch of more angry ranting:
I promise you that guy probably doesn’t actually care if we’re in fascism as long as he’s safe, well fed, and mildly entertained. He will not put his balls on the table to fight fascism. He might be annoyed that his late night cable slop has been disrupted, but that’s it.
To be clear, he doesn’t owe us anything either. He doesn’t owe us suicidal devotion to a socialist revolution against the fascists. And you would be unhinged and legitimately an immoral sociopath to think otherwise. Liberal normies do not owe us devotion to political awareness. No one chooses to be born. No one owes their lives to a cause. Rage and froth at the mouth about it all you want.
They voted for democrats, and they did not even really owe anyone even that. We could have avoided this. We could have been fighting against a liberal president. We could have built off that. Instead now we’re stuck in defense yet again and we are simply out of time. Congratulations.
And no, I wont get over it, suck the shit out of my asshole. I want good things world make no mistake, and I still feel tinges of hope when I see the Trump presidency stumble and fuck up. With hope that maybe the world can heal eventually to something that’s not intolerable, perhaps merely just mildly bad. But there is this meta-awareness of resentment overlaid on top of even that because we should not be here and we did not need to be here. And even after when the world has healed.
Even if it heal to a miraculous degree. Maybe we live in a fucking utopia at the end of this: still fuck you. I’ll be an elderly man or dead. The prime of my life wasted existing in a toxic miserable slog of a period of time because of a stupid political larpers and weak liberals couldn’t stop fucking bickering with each other and I have to stare into the abyss of people’s suffering and pain caused by this administration. And let be clear: Its not even my own pain or death. I’m living a materially better life than like 90% of you probably, but my sense of pride in my humanity is fucking dead. Everything I indulge in covered in a grey smog of “Hey I bet a bunch of Africans are going to unnecessarily starve to death because we did not like Harris enough to prevent Trump from cutting USAID haha ok enjoy your sci-fi book buddy”
Its fucking inescapable now. AGHAGHGA
I could be being daft here but I thought USAID was a propaganda and infiltration tactic. Like a way for the USA to put pressure on other countries.
Maybe, but:
- Those who operated and participated in the aid activities believed it was genuine
- It helped a lot of people under that pretense
If it really is a propaganda, infiltration, and pressure tactic then none of those things justify it’s existence. Of course it might not just be that and reality is complicated. Either way promoting interventionism from a country with such a horrific record as the USA is a bad idea.
Yeah I’m not saying its right or wrong, only that I can understand why some people defend it and its impact can’t be ignored.
What the fuck is going on with Lemmy today? Why can nobody edit their own comments? I’ve had to delete and repost quite a bit too.
Why do we do this to ourselves!? Nothing is ever good enough. Can’t it be enough that we agree with each other? Why are we gate keeping awareness?

Purity check is way more important than building the better world. Building the better world is hard, hating libs for not being your flavour of socialism is easy, satisfying, and makes you look cool to your peers (until you slip up and now you’re the lib)
Better late than never
Anything that leads to cishet white male anti fascist awakening is welcome at this point. And honestly at any point.
Fascism has been completely normal here for the past 400+ years.
USA is actively committing at least one genocide right now.
The president is a literal rapist, racist, fascist and failed casino owner.
Where do y’all think that you live?
Fascism out in the open? Best I can do is a Disney boycott.
-gun loving Americans
I remember people in my twenties telling me imperialism didn’t end and I was like I guesss? Idk tho… But now I see it.
Point is someone’s always late to getting woke, even if you clocked it twenty years ago, Panthers clocked it before that. And on and on.
I swear I did not thought I would see, in my lifetime, the fall of the American Empire, and so fast and so far from where it once stand. As a non american this it makes me sad that the people could not see this coming and now it’s too far gone.
A great example to the world that we should never lower our guns because evil is just one election away
Remember the Roman empire. It was a kingdom at the start, then a republic and then a dictatorship.
It’s almost like… idk… history repeats itself
They may have taken my circuses but if they take my bread then I’ll really get upset
That’s in process. The tariff wealth transfer will take time, but they are trying to accelerate it all by implementing a 30% national sales tax.
Sigh… guess I’ll just have to eat cake then. The rich are off of the menu.
FYI she never said that and you fell for 18th century propaganda.
Toilet Paper USA robbing Kimmel is not cool.
I’m all for people waking up to it when they do. This isn’t too late, but it would have been nice of they would have listened and seen the signs earlier. We could have had a larger and possibly more effective resistance movement.
However, we didn’t really have much of a resistance effort then and more people would have only help so much. And having liberals join us at anytime would have been difficult to integrate because we barely know how to get along with people who agree with us. Liberals have fundamental issues with our insights in other areas.
Frankly, we don’t know how to integrate liberals into a leftist resistence. We don’t have much of a resistence beyond yelling at each other online. Sadly, we were never prepared for a authoritarian transition. And honestly, not sure when we were suppose to.
Now i’m no christian, but whatever jesus gave us this had fire in his belly. someone get him some wine that is not hygienic.
the this in question so you don’t have to click through unless you want:
The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard
Matthieu 20 vv1-16, NIV
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.
“About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So they went.
“He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’
“‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.
“He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’
“When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’
“The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’
“But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’
waking up is like planting trees. best time was 20 years ago. second best time is today. reward doesn’t change.
Planting trees when the world is on fire is the wrong time.
It’s be nice to have well trained environmentally conscious people who are capable of containing a wild fire, but we don’t.
i get the metaphor and trust is earned, but i fundamentally believe this:
why try to better ourselves, be better people, if change is impossible. improvement is only out of reach for the crabs (having already reached the pinnacle)I agree with this.
It’s a matter of resources. Do people who can both fight the fire and educate people in fighting fires do fire fighting or educating? Hell… I’m not sure we have many of either.
