WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Tuesday that a video circulating online that showed items being tossed out of an upstairs window of the White House was created with artificial intelligence, despite his press team seeming to confirm the veracity of it hours earlier.

Trump, who has boasted of being an expert in building design as he takes on remodeling projects at the White Houseand beyond, told reporters that the video has “got to be fake” because the windows, he said, are heavy and sealed shut.

The video, which circulated Monday, appears to show a small black bag and a long white item being tossed out of a window on the building’s east side.

Trump blamed the video on AI, saying the creation of fake videos was one of the downsides of the technology, but then said, “If something happens that’s really bad, maybe I’ll have to just blame AI.”

Hours earlier, the White House seemed to verify that the video was real when it told several news outlets that inquired about the video that it was “a contractor who was doing regular maintenance while the President was gone.”

The White House did not respond to a message later Tuesday about the discrepancy.

JFC, people just completely ignoring the most simple answer:

Trump had no idea renovations were happening and had not seen the video so made a knee-jerk statement that it must be AI based on his lack of knowledge and his assumption that the windows couldn’t be opened normally (renovations are not a normal scenario).

    That’s it.

Theres no coverup. There’s no conspiracy. Just a confused old man getting defensive about something he had no idea was happening.

Or he has contractors in there without getting clearance because it’s slow, and he does what he wants and then lies about it like a toddler.

    Here we go.

Police britality against protestors is “AI”, russian invasion of Ukraine is “AI”, a video of trump telling his people to attack the capitol in 2021 is “AI”, Tiananmen Square Massacre is “AI”.

Truth is over, you can shoot someone on 5th avenue in broad daylight, and say any video of the murder to be “AI”.

Welcome to the new era! Truth are lies and lies are truth.

Number one, he’s demented. His brain is eating itself and it’s getting really bad.

Number two, he’s a career criminal and he’s definitely doing some superfuckingshady shit. The bag could be filled with money, priceless artifacts, or just his shit because he’s demented and put his used diaper in one of the CIA burn bags because he doesn’t know who or where he is.

Number three - where’s the fucking video?

“a contractor who was doing regular maintenance while the President was gone.”

So, is it normal for a contractor to be throwing bags out the window at the White House, that the President believes is “600lbs, bulletproof, and can’t be opened”?

    Seems sus.

White House officials claim it was a contractor doing work while Trump was out. Supposedly contractors are not allowed in the White House. Not sure what’s going on but I am sure we will never get answers until Trump is long gone or dead.

Is this the first time a major politician has claimed something to be AI in order to deflect criticism?

My rationale is that being whiney about downvotes is annoying. Grow a pair. Someone disagreed with you. Get over it.

But to hunt them down to “name and shame” them, that’s next level whine.

      Wow. Get over yourself.

        I’m fine with that reason.

Someone disagreed with you. Get over it.

Disagreed with what exactly? A question? If I give an opinion, I can certainly understand people downvoting because they disagree and I don’t care.

But I feel like there’s a lot of downvoting that happens on this website to stifle conversation. Why downvote somebody asking a question unless you don’t want to see the question answered?

Do you not believe that a question can imply an opinion?

But I didn’t downvote you for a question or for an opinion.

I downvoted you for complaining about being downvoted, and I would happily downvote you another ten times for publishing their usernames.

As I said, I’m fine with that. I deserved that. I’ve said many things on Lemmy that get downvotes without comments, and I get over it real fast.

Do you not believe that a question can imply an opinion?

If that is the case, then for the love of god, let me know what opinion my question implied. I don’t think that’s the case, though. If somebody thought differently, I would have loved to have seen their rationale (which is why I called them out).

What I think is more likely is some people see a Trump thread and come to the comments looking for a Trump bashing circle jerk. And anybody not participating in the circle jerk gets sent to the bottom of the thread where it won’t get as much visibility. These people are just looking for an echo chamber.

Do you not believe that a question can imply an opinion?

If that is the case, then for the love of god, let me know what opinion my question implied

Well for a start, you just reputed to my leading question as if of were an answer. Let’s look at your innocent question just seeking information and see if we can’t food an underlying attitude it might betray:

What is the significance of something being thrown out a window?

Well we could argue that the author of such a comment wasn’t merely asking for an answer but also expressing an opinion that the answer was particularly non obvious.

So you might easily interpret this expressing the opinion that it was insignificant and that this story should be dismissed or ignored.

But who would see a neighbour throwing something out of a high window and not think it was drama?

You’ve spent two days denying that your question could possibly express an opinion that could possibly be disagreed with only to conclude immediately and correctly that my question was clearly an opinion that you instantly disagreed with.

And then to cap it all, you end with a little rant against Trump bashing, betraying the very opinion you were trying to pretend wasn’t implicit in your “innocent” question.

So it turns out that your opinion is that Trump deserves a gentler, less critical ride from the public (which is frankly absurd for a president so gossipy, abusive, misleadingly critical, childishly name-calling and dismissive of others), and it turns out that your efforts to hide your trump-friendly stance behind an “innocent” question failed miserably and you’ve uselessly spent two days arguing with the one person who initially took you literally, convincing me more and more that you have an agenda you were trying to conceal.

Your outrage, defensiveness and persistence in claiming lack of bias not only betrayed that you felt strongly about something, but also led you in exasperation to say the quiet but out loud.

Trump is an overrated, nasty, greedy little self-serving weirdo and it’s silly to pretend otherwise.

You know exactly why he’s not releasing the Epstein files but you’d rather pretend to be baffled, as if you couldn’t imagine the Liar in Chief dreaming of misleading the public about whether he’s a child molester or not.

Look, I truly hate Trump, if you looked at my post history for one minute you’d probably recognize that. I’m 100% on board with Trump bashing when he earns it.

My issue is that think places like Reddit and Lemmy create this bubble for liberals to pretend that everything republicans do is 100% bad and we should never look at facts or question anything. Send the feelings to the top and the facts to the bottom.

This was the mentality us liberals had in 2016 and again in 2024. Look how that turned out?

If you (or they) truly think asking “why is this bad” is giving a PRO TRUMP opinion, then you (or they) are exactly the people to blame for both of Trump’s terms. Liberals have to change, or we are going to usher in Trump’s 3rd term too.

If them throwing stuff out the window truly is bad, then the answer would have been given explaining why it was bad, which would give more visibility to why exactly this was a big deal.

My honest opinion: I think those people downvoted me because they thought it probably wasn’t bad, and so they downvoted because they wanted that conversation to happen at the bottom of a thread and not the top.

This is a flaw with Liberals. If we won’t let these conversations be visible on Lemmy, then the moderates (who we need) will just go other places that feel less like an echo chambers.

Every Presidency involves some overhyped peculiarities, but I don’t think this is one of them. This is, if nothing else, a major security violation. It also raises the questions of what was in the bag, what the white object was, who was doing it, and why those items weren’t disposed of in the usual manner.

It may not seem like much, but for what’s one of the highest security residences in the world, a “minor” incident is a big deal.
