Gomez Addams and Bluey’s Dad are my gender goals
For the benefit of readers who may not know Mr. Addams or understand why he’s so great, should we list out the qualities?
I’ll have first go, but would love supplemental info.
- Madly in love with his wife
- Romantic
- Quite strong (if I remember correctly)
- Shameless about his preferences
- Willing to admit when he’s wrong (and gracefully)
- Supportive of his children while still challenging them
- Highly skilled in numerous areas
- Stylish af, though not trendy
Most of my observations are based on the cartoons. Gentlemen, we should all be like Gomez. Other qualities to attribute to this legend?

I have been saying that every man wants a Morticia but not nearly enough women want a Gomez for YEARS. That being said, I have also pulled some goth baddies by being a weird little guy who is ferociously affectionate, wildly passionate in his interests, and enjoys his share of swordplay. Hopefully my concerns are misplaced.
Majority of women want a Gomez. So, no clue where you got that phrase from but it’s kinda dumb to continue saying. Feels like it’s just a rehashing of the NiceGuy™ rhetoric “women only want bad guys who treat them like shit” nonsense.
Honestly the statement wasn’t meant to be “women don’t want this” so much as “women don’t openly express desire for this.” Gomez isn’t, in my mind, part of the cultural zeitgeist for what a highly desireable male partner is.
Anecdotally, that may be true for your personal experience, I can’t speak against that, but I have to mention that what most people believe to be “part of the cultural zeitgeist for what a highly desirable male partner is” comes from misogynistic cultural norms that predominantly men, not women, have perpetuated; decades of men consistently disregarding the opinions of women and opting to tell them what they want instead of actually listening to their desires.
It’s less “women don’t openly express desire for this” and more “men don’t actually listen, thinking they know better than women about what they ‘actually’ want”.
Gomez is written the way he is specifically because he is a personification of what women actually have been saying for decades that they want in a romantic partner that men have consistently been ignoring. It’s kinda the entire point of his character in the Adams Family.
