During the agents’ violent attack on a delivery worker Saturday morning in DC, bystanders repeatedly demanded the agents share their badge numbers. One of them—his face fully obscured by a black balaklava—eventually shot back, “Do I have to answer to you?”

“You guys are ruining this country. You know that, right?” one bystander said to the agents at one point during the incident. An agent, ironically clad in a rainbow face mask, replied “Liberals already ruined it.”

_

Last week on stage at the Netroots conference in New Orleans, I spoke with Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (D-IL) about ICE: specifically that she believes it should be abolished. It’s a stance that’s considered far left, but after witnessing ICE and other federal agents in DC this week, abolishing ICE should be the baseline Democratic position.

“ICE is a terrorist organization,” Ramirez told me. “It needs to be defunded and needs to be abolished.”

ICE is becoming a paramilitary organization, Trump’s personal army. It isn’t really fulfilling its supposed role for which it was created in the first place.

Right!? It was supposed to be a paramilitary organization that harassed, assaulted, disappeared, and murdered people crossing the border. SMH truly lost their way…

Critics have been saying that about the ICE for over 2 decades. It’s a force that doesn’t adhere to congress but instead only the president, it operates without oversight or courts issuing their warrants. It’s literally the modern Gestapo.

It absolutely is fulfilling the role it was created for. It’s just not fulfilling the role that it was stated to be created for.

I really don’t understand how cons think liberals “ruined” anything. This country could be very great if the cons would stop trying to make everyone’s lives miserable by constantly poking their nose where it doesn’t belong.

“Things would be better if it weren’t for [group], they’re the problem, not the rich.” It’s a lie as old as civilization and conservatives always fall for it.

Increasingly, both here on Lemmy as well as elsewhere, I seem to be seeing an awful lot of what I’d label as inter-generational bullshit that seems designed to distract from the very same thing (the centimillionaire/billionaire class).

For the most part, Gen X is ignored in a lot of this, but I see a lot of people acting as if their generation (Gen Y/Z for the most part) has a special class of problems no one else had, and the boomers are the worst generation in history or something. With almost zero context or sense of history and a whole lot of erasure of people’s experiences, LOL. It’s actually kind of embarrassing to see it when I see there are liberals/leftists doing this, too. Talking about a “gerontocracy” in the political class. Falling for the “term limits” bullshit, even.

Those of us that have been around a bit and are trying to pay attention remember seeing boomers saying the same thing when they were younger, as well as Gen Xers, and it’s even with all the 'net at our fingertips now, I see both my generation and younger generations saying the same dumb shit.

Juvenile. Pissed off that someone might hold them accountable. Not much these people hate more than oversight and someone getting in the way of their violence.

ICE is a terrorist organization, but if they aren’t going to abolish it then we need to abolish ICE members. One by one by one.

It’s agents also need to be arrested, and put on a trial.

These guys are total pussies. Either shoot them or unmask them. They are already on camera so swarm them and pull down a few masks. Once you ID a few of them publicly, the rest will drop like flies.

No one wants to shoot anyone. We’re not murderers. So here we are, needing to think of some other way, and no one has ideas.

This makes my blood boil. While I appreciate the resistance the filmers showed, their response could have been better.

First and foremost, they should have dialed 9-1-1. “There is a group of masked and armed men assaulting and kindnapping a man off the street! They are trying to pull him into a black sedan with tinted windows! Send police now!”

After that, let them know in no uncertain terms that fascist pieces of shit are not welcome here. Call them out on their un-American actions

Dude is right but for the wrong reasons. LIberalism serves and reinforces hegemony. Liberalism pushes the overton window so far to the right that fascism seems moderate.

    Liberalism <—> Fascism.

I get that liberals had their part to play, but can we stop putting the onus of fascism on liberals and blame the fucking fascists for fascism for a change?

      Liberalism <—> Fascism.

It wasnt always this way. Liberalism is way off the rails and the DNC has zero interest in fixing it. And the republicans are just openly violent fascists. The Dems will do the barest possible minimum of serving their voters to keep some small chance of winning an election, and no more. They dont work for us, but they do want our votes. They work for AIPAC and industry.
