Just one more link road, bro.
I got curious and looked around for more info, thinking that usually it takes at least a few months for traffic patterns to settle in like this. Nope. This overpass opened yesterday.
But wait, there are even more familiar issues! Housing? Yep, lots of people were displaced. Which was also ignored during planning, so the project landed late (22 years in the making) and way over budget.
Furthermore, it’s not like the civil planning experts in Mumbai didn’t know any better.
Transport expert Ashok Datar voiced skepticism about long-term benefits. “There is a saying that instead of trying to cover the world with leather, one should wear leather shoes. SCLR’s extension is an attempt to cover the world in leather. All that is being done is that a congestion point is being pushed further ahead of the road. How many extensions will you do while ignoring easier and cheaper solutions like having dedicated bus corridors on Mumbai’s roads? That is a far cheaper option than building such roads,” Datar said.
Mumbai’s East–West road link realised after 2 decades with SCLR extension
I bet you some people got really rich off this though, won’t you think of the poor billionaires?
Cool bridge tho
First class with sunlight, shadow and black water below for the proletariat
obviously they should add a 4th layer, duh
and when that gets traffic jammed too, add a 5th! easy
what, public transit? uh, sweaty, do you not know how expensive and loud and ugly it would be???
Ah, the Chongqing approach.

Except Chongqing has an excellent public transport network that’s deeply integrated into the city
Yes, it’s quite good, but they still suffer from busses not having their own lanes/priority at lights and too many people driving cars.
If you just squeeze it in there! I think I see a spot in the park that can be bulldozed and paved into a new express lane! Progress yay!
Sprite of Mumbai!
Just make them wider
No, more layers are the answer!
As a minimum two tunnels and three above ground levels more.
They should have build a parking Garage. That would bei so much easier for standing cars in multiple layers
Neat architecture. Would look better with a train on it.
Pretyy sure Chicago beat them to it
I see two layers
It’s hard to see from the angle the photo was taken at, but if you look closely you’ll notice the “lower” layer is actually a flyover on top of a third layer at street level
