It is a highly calculated and very malicious move to force pregnant women to give birth whether they want to or not – thereby reinforcing the patriarchy by making it infinitely more difficult for women to access education and the workforce.

On a serious note, I’m not quite sure how to parse your statement. I don’t think women’s value should be defined in the slightest by whether they have kids or not. Are you saying that women who don’t bear kids are less valuable than mothers? more valuable than mothers? (I’m leaning towards interpreting it as the former, because it is my firm belief that men are pretty useless, but it still helps to clarify)

It is absolutely not. I’ve been on Lemmy 3 years and I’ve never even felt the need to comment on a post without checking what community it’s in and if it’s a community I want to engage with.

I’m glad your trip to Paris was fun and I don’t really know what to do with the knowledge that you’re bored of traveling solo. My feelings on the matter are diametrically opposed to yours, I don’t know what else to tell you.

As an adult it’s cool to see the little clams burrow down in the turf for a minute.

As a mid-30s adult I and my partner (also mid-30s) spent about two hours on a beach in Thailand collecting pretty shells and digging in the sand to make little waterways. It was indeed cool to be around.

Is that why you think people should have kids? So there’s someone who feels compelled by guilt and familial obligation to show up? I can tell you it doesn’t work like that. Having kids is no guarantee you won’t die alone, and being childfree has nothing to do with how many people show up to care for you because they love you and want to care for you.

100% disagree. Discounting the fact that zoos are highly unethical, if I were to go to the zoo I’d want to see (and listen to and learn about) the animals, not to someone’s kids yelling their heads off and running amok and annoying the animals

But nothing makes me smile like being able to witness the purity of joy and awe as someone learning something new. Child or adult doesn’t matter, but children show it more cleanly and plainly IME. I like helping and I like educating.

That is wonderful and I’m genuinely delighted it brings you joy. The world would be a far better place if there were more people like you in it.

No. It makes you moribund if you need another person there with you to enter a “great and absorbent state of mind”. For me the annoyance of having to watch over a kid far outweighs any potential joy I could derive out of educating them or watching them learn something new, which is why there is no place I would want to go or experience I would want to have that would be made better with the presence of a kid. It’s that simple.

I don’t like kids and I don’t want them in my house. I’m polite and kind to them should the need arise, but I’d rather not have them near me. I also like money and freedom.

That said I also fully support socialized childcare, healthcare, education, and employment programs so that the children that do exist in the world are well taken care of and can grow up into healthy, well-adjusted adults.

Hell to the fuck no. I’m going to the museum to enjoy myself and learn about cool stuff for myself. Bringing a kid is absolutely not going to result in a “great and absorbent state of mind”, especially if I constantly have to worry about where said kid is and what they’re doing – I can just as well take an (adult) friend or partner to whom it is also new and wonderful if I want to share the experience with someone (and we can go someplace that’s not fucking McDonald’s after.)

I’m sorry that your state of mind is so terribly moribund that simply being in a cool place of learning doesn’t suffice for you to learn and absorb new things and that you have to rely on an external locus to delude yourself into believing you’re getting to that point.

Called my partner a gold digging whore (hilarious, considering she was earning 3x as much as I was at the time) and outright said I should marry the woman (daughter of a family friend) that they liked for me and keep my partner around as a side piece because “a real man knows how to make everyone happy”.
