Summary

Ted Cruz warned that Trump’s tariffs could trigger a GOP “bloodbath” in the 2026 midterms, citing inflation and market fallout as major risks.

On his Verdict podcast, Cruz criticized tariffs as taxes on consumers and urged they be short-lived.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 plunged nearly 10% over two days. Senator Rand Paul and others echoed concerns, with Paul warning tariffs could add $5,000–$15,000 to car prices.

Senator Chuck Grassley has introduced a bill requiring congressional approval of tariffs within 60 days or automatic expiration.

The people complaining are literally the only people with the power to actually do something about it.

All of this could end tomorrow.

I will guarantee you can get all Democrats on board with a bill that reclaims the power of levying tariffs as outlined in Article 1 of the Constitution. Reclaim the powers and nullify all tariffs that have been imposed by Trump since his inauguration. Even half of Republicans and all Democrats would be enough to cover the 2/3 in the Senate needed to override a Trump veto.

That’s it. That’s all it would take and this whole thing would be over. But anyone in the GOP that is complaining about these tariffs while holding the power to actually do something about it isn’t actually complaining. It’s performance art. Don’t listen to what they say, look at how they vote. If they’re saying they’re against it while voting in favor of it, they’re lying to you.

And these people are all lying to you. They will vote in lockstep when push comes to shove.

There’s a bipartisan bill in the Senate right now to force the tariffs to expire after 60 days if not approved by Congress. So they’re at least putting on a show of doing something. It mentioned it on the blurb up top

Again, Republicans are worried about their own jobs and power, not about any of the problems of the working American family, the average white fucking American family that voted for this btw.

His big worry is re-election, not the people this will hurt.

I’m glad to see that people here aren’t reveling in looming economic disaster just because it might mean that their team gets to be in power.

Of course Ted fucking Cruz is concerned with getting reelected, not, you know; the whole horrific collapse of the stock market, wiping out the 401ks and retirement savings of any of his constituents who even had them.

Or the financial harm that absolutely will translate into direct harm as people can’t afford to fucking eat.

No no. It’s that the party that caused this fucking disaster won’t stay in power. That’s the real reason they need to act.

That’s definitely next. But the tariffs are absolutely going to fuck people over.

Then increased cost of food and other necessities is only the first part.

The next is companies finding ways to skimp where they can. I.e. payroll. They’re going to lean up and dump “extraneous” employees. Maybe reduce staffing below redundancy and fuck coverage. Maybe reneg on promised raises. And closing down unprofitable stuff. Maybe move to using AI for ever increasingly stupid applications.

The shockwave in the markets is only just beginning.

I don’t know why they are so worried, Trump has toppled all the heads of government agencies with loyalists. They will be well prepared to finish their transition towards authoritarianism in the midterms, although they will have a lot more to worry about before they even get there.

The feds have less control over blue state elections (although just ignoring the results is always an option), but red state governments will probably fall in line and throw out any results they don’t like.

It’s more than likely true because this shit always blows up in their faces, but it won’t matter if all we do is elect more milquetoast Zionist corporate Dems. If that happens, we will end up right back in this same spot in a few years.

If we give Cancun Ted the benefit of the doubt (something I am loathe to do for any MAGA Nazi), then perhaps he is truly warning HitlerPig of the electoral consequences of this economic folly.

In reality, I am 100% positive that HitlerPig will hear it as a call to suspend the mid-term elections.

Midterms? Not at this rate. I’m sure some fabricated emergency will spring up delaying such democratic luxuries.

Can’t wait until the day he, Paxton, and Abbott are gone for good from Texas. We need more like Jasmine Crockett to fill the void once those fuckers are ate.
