Yeah, he really does. Earlier this year he was waxing philosophic about how showers are terrible for you and how being on a farm means you never have to bathe.

HURT: They are. I take showers if I’m going to be around people. But this is why you live on a farm. You live on a farm, you don’t have to take showers.

Five-year-old Nicki really wishes her staunchly Republican family had been exposed to this deep wisdom when she grew up on a farm.

Bathing was my least favorite thing at that point in time, yet I was still expected to do it daily.

So instead of having the rich and powerful abuse and assault immigrants they should abuse and assault children? Maybe on an island? Is there a list?

I feel like anyone suggesting this has never interacted with a child.

Perhaps surprisingly, most kids will happily pick fruit for say, 15 minutes.

If you want them to do it for 40 hours a week that’s going to require some extreme motivation.

There’s a side effect to this which I don’t think anyone is picking up: an inherent devaluing of the work that immigrants do here. They pivoted from “immigrants are criminals and rapists” to “OK, maybe some aren’t, but the ones who aren’t are doing work so simple your kids could do it”.

    The worst fucking timeline.

I guess the baby-talk “maga” means - bring back child labor. That was the time period when America was greatest?

if there was a god, and god wasn’t a sick twisted evil fuck like in the bible, all these fuckers would die from horrendously painful burn damage after surviving a lightning strike

I started doing farm work when I was 9 after school and during the summers in WNC and it motivated me to do anything I could to no have to do that shit work as an adult.

I had so many different crap and low-paying jobs from the age of about 14 to after graduating from college, and - the first job that paid much was a farm and it was under the table and it was rough. The only job that possibly worked me harder (although since it was at crazy hours of the night, at least it was not quite as hot) was at a packaging place, unloading/loading trucks.

I felt the same way as you - definitely motivated me to finish the degree so I could do nearly anything else, especially if it was indoors and had HVAC.

I’m sure cons would say that is something that molded me into who I am today, but I’m not someone that then wants to turn around and also want people that follow me to have it just as bad; I want people to have it better than I did, FFS.

Kids can be easily tricked by shitty supervisors to do dangerous jobs because they’re not old enough to know any better. Adults are usually smart enough to see the danger in working with machines that can crush and shred you. Or with chemicals that will poison you.

Parents who offer up their kids to these businesses because they “trust them to keep their kids safe” deserve to be kicked in the groin repeatedly.
