Some of us have been around long enough to have used pine as our main e-mail client, thus we learned to love pico and now we love nano.

Damn kids these days. Get off my lawn.

I remember using pine on some occasions but I mostly used mutt which was using $EDITOR to write emails. Which for me was vi.

I can’t imagine anyone doing serious work using nano but it’s totally possible the problem is with my imagination, not nano itself.

mutt wasn’t a thing on the system where I learned pine. The first version existed out in the world, but the sysadmin probably thought it too new to install if they’d heard of it at all. We had three choices: mailx, elm and pine. pine granted access to newsgroups - the system had an NNTP server - as well as e-mail so it was a no-brainer for most of us.

I mostly edit config files. Nano has syntax highlighting, search, find+replace. What else do I need?

Plus it’s easy to walk someone else through using it, if I need to do tech support.

nano is fine but I doubt it has any actual fans.
