  • That’s a pretty innacurate assessment of Rowling, as much as I dislike her.

There’s this whole thing people do whenever we watch someone fall from grace, scrutinizing their past through the bias of the present to find “clues,” so we can better avoid people like that in the future.

But JK was and still is fairly progressive. A number of people close to her have said her opinions on trans people were, in part, radicalized as a result the fame that exposed her to vitriolic opposition.

I want to be very clear there is no excuse for what she’s done or said about trans people, only that it’s innacurate to say her shitty views came in a package deal and have always been the same.

This is a real world example of why media literacy matters.

Most common reasons for being woke:

    • Gay people
    • Gay people getting married
    • Player can be gay or trans
    • Non-white people
    • Player is non-white
    • Strong women
    • Socialism

Their “non-woke” approved games include Bayonetta, Tropico, The Witcher, and Final Fantasy XII.

  • It’s interesting to bring up air traffic controllers because they (in most countries) have strictly regulated work hours. The research into fatigue and safety problems is pretty extensive, and the last person you want working overtime because someone got sick is the controller telling a dozen or more planes where to fly at once.

While not all jobs have the same stakes, that goes to show how it’s an employer’s responsibility to account for reality.

  • This isn’t a woman complaining about people getting creative with her face, it’s a report on her experience with Sora.

One of the key points stated at the beginning was:

Although nudity or sexual content is banned, I discovered people making fetish content with my face.

Which opens the question about what, exactly, someone is consenting to when they allow other people to use their face, and what’s considered pornographic.

She went on to say users were making underage fetish content and potentially pornographic material anyway. This is a problem with any AI generated content and why so many stable diffusion platforms have banned words and groups of terms, if they don’t flat out ban all sexual terms. But, since the apps use real language, it’s impossible to think of every possible route to an end. The terms of service and moderation try to plug the holes, but they can’t be 100% effective.

  • I used to live a few blocks away from Oppenheimer Park in Vancouver, on East Hastings, while the occupation was happening. I saw people openly injecting at 1am while I walked home from work. Worst that happened was being asked for money. Mostly? They just said “Hi,” and “Good morning.”

Yeah, it looks bad when folks are drunk and on drugs in the open, but those people have nowhere else to go. Cops kept raiding and shutting down the independent harm reduction sites set up to keep the worst of it off the streets. No kidding people attack the police, I don’t blame them.
