    Twelve. Twelve Battles of the Isonzo. In less than two-and-a-half years. None of which were particularly successful.

    WW1 generals are often maligned as incompetent, when they were dealing with legitimately limited resources with which to coordinate massive offensives. But Luigi Cadorna deserves his reputation for ham-handed butchery.

      I will srill never understand why they later named a ship after him. All he did was lose lives until they replaced him with someone who had a lick of sense of what he was actually supposed to do.

    When I first came here, this was all Isonza River. Everyone said I was daft to march an army to a river, but I marched em in all the same, just to show them. They were defeated at the river. So I mobilized a second one. They were defeated at the river. So I mobilized a third. They burned up, fell over, then were defeated at the river. But the fourth one is still mobilizing. And that’s where you’re going to go, Lad, the strongest army to fight on the Isonza River.
