Everytime I hear whining about youtube ads I’m reminded there are people who are still too dumb to use an adblocker.

Not everyone knows how to install add free YouTube-app to their smart tv.

That doesn’t make them dumb. Most of them don’t even know such things exist. Let alone know even where to start if they want to have it on their tv.

Literally a 5 second google about “how do I get rid of ads on my smart TV” would present you half a dozen options.

I have little sympathy for people who never even try to seek any solution to their problems.

Searching that turns up information about how my particular TV OS (WebOS) has no way of getting around Youtube ads. Not every smart TV runs Android.

And no, a pihole won’t do it, either. I’ve tried.

Yeah right. Easy to say if you’re tech oriented. To most of my friends and family this is like foreign language.

“Use AdGuard for Android TV: Sideload the AdGuard app to block ads across apps and browsers.

Block Ads on YouTube (Android TV): Install third-party apps like SmartTube to watch YouTube without ads.

Block Domains at the Router: Use router settings to block ad domains like samsungads.com for Samsung or lgad.cjpowercast.com for LG.”

But how does the presence of an HDMI port determine whether or not you’re watching YouTube??

              Dense motherfucker.

OK I’ll play your game. Assume that I am, and explain to me what about an HDMI port determines whether or not I’m watching YouTube on my TV??

I’m guessing they’re saying if you have a TV that can access yt, then you can plug in a device that can run yt with ads blocked.

Personally I gave my first smart TV the wifi password and almost immediately factory reset it when it tried to install 19 different streaming apps I didn’t ask for and mostly hadn’t heard of, fuck that.
