Too be fair Gavin Newsom would LOVE to play a role like Guiliani did after 9/11, it was the prime of his life and the righteousness came quick and hard to silence critics in those days… Gavin might actually have a remote chance to win president as a heroic and embattled defender from terrorism in a way that he could never win if he is stuck having to actually talk about policy during “peacetime”.

Welp, prepare for war my friends. It is coming to the US far faster than I think people want to admit they logically know it is.

Hours after a terrorist attack on California, Techbros will have already spammed an astroturf campaign using military AI flush with government contract cash about how the only way to make sure this never happens again is to fully eradicate civil liberties and privacy rights and all of California will eat it up hook line and sinker because people in California think they aren’t as stupid as people everywhere else due to having so many tech companies nearby and so they will think “this is a New Thing” and “we should Just Trust The Authoritarians Who Have Our Best Interests At Heart.”

Meanwhile all regulation of big tech will flip on its head and become regulation of the government by big tech.

Then conservatives all over the country will say “look this is why liberals can’t keep you safe and be strong men on foreign policy like us!” and the mainstream media and center of the US will eat that narrative right up too, slamming the afterburners of fascism and rightwing bigotry in this country all the way up to 11 in a matter of days.

Do you see how vulnerable the US is? Why we need to take this dead seriously? If you fly one drone into the mainland US, everybody will lose their minds and the current political status quo will fly apart quicker than anyone expects… and it if it happens it will most certainly benefit extremist rightwing conservatives who don’t give a fuck about keeping you safe, they just want to kill more brown people.

Geographically, I think the US military and allies pretty much have the Atlantic buttoned up (the Arctic aside) compared to the vastness of the Pacific along with its many potentially opposing powers with long reaches on the other side of it.

Politically, Big Tech is in California.

No, me neither for the record. Kash Patel is a joke as Director and the FBI failed to stop an armed coup organized on facebook in the open from happening… and the FBI was worse than useless BEFORE those things even happened.

However I think the warning here is real, the fundamental design advantage of a shahed-like flying bomb is that they can be built and then launched from almost anywhere. There is no hunting down every drone and launch point the way you could conceivably do so with say missile trucks.

The key point Ukraine has underlined over and over again is that distance is no matter to long range strike drones, even smaller ones can cover large ranges and take circuituous routes to targets, this makes the natural impunity to attack most people in the US assume we have an illusion in a way it never really has been up until this point. Ukraine is thoroughly teaching Russia this lesson the hard way for Russia, the rest of the world would do well to elect to learn these lessons proactively before shit hits the fan for them.

Iran could not likely seriously hurt the US, but it could fly a couple of shaheds into targets and exploit the media coverage to send the whole country into a panic and that would unfortunately likely be enough for the US to completely have amnesia about the existential dangers of supporting fascist domestic politics and Islamophobia. see Iraq and Afghanistan Wars…

I want to emphasize, I am not advocating for being terrified Iran can fly a drone into your house, fearmongering about terrorists from the middle east invading our shores are indeed very dangerous narratives to feed into given the long brutal history of Islamophobia in the US. What I am saying there is the political possibility Iran could leverage a handful of very small scale strikes on the US to impact world politics.

Look at the tiny little fluffy song birds every year making massive migrations up and down the Americas that put to shame any kind of journey you have ever undertaken and think about how that applies to North America’s vulnerability to small aerial UAV attack based on the basic physics logic being expressed here by the counterintuitive reality “tiny thing go far”.

Are these things capable of flying across the ocean? If so, why would Iran send them across the Pacific instead of the much closer Atlantic? It would make more sense to hit Washington or New York than California.

Ukraine drone striking Russia is a very different situation as Ukraine is not seperated by 8,000 miles of ocean from Russia. It is much easier to secretly load trucks with drones than it is to secretly load boats with them.

Iran is doing enough damage bombing military US assets in the middle east and closing the Straight of Hormuz. It would be nonsensical to overextend in this manner.

It seems absurd to even entertain the idea that Iran would send drone strikes to California. It would be a stupid action only the USA would attempt to do since it seems obvious such an attack would galvanize the US into more military action, which Iran doesn’t want.

You mean Kash Patel’s FBI that helped redact pedophile Donald Trump from the Epstein files?

Yeah, I’ll go ahead and assume this is a lie used as justification for our new war in Iran.
