I like the take in “Roadside picnic” where people use alien artifacts without any understanding of how they work. They find for example batteries that never run out but it’s pretty clear that is not what aliens used this for. No one knows what it really is or how it works but hey, unlimited battery is nice so people use it everywhere. And does anyone really think people would be able to resist the temptation and not use it? I doubt it.
