You can reset the tv and set it up without internet. It still works as a “dumb” tv.

27·2 days agoI think the bigger threat to cinema is conglomeration. Allowing all the studios to merge, and then buy up the streaming channels, and internet companies is a recipe for killing creativity and free speech.

CBS doesn’t deserve your clicks, views, or money.

Technology@lemmy.world•Apple tried to blame the EU for its Siri AI mess, and the EU called them out publiclyEnglish
2·7 days agoTrue. It will be interesting to see if Apple:
- continues to work on the API
- releases the API in other regions (like North America)
- eventually moves their own AI to this API (eating their own dog food)
I think Apple got caught in a hard place where they had to start over and get things up and running quickly to head off any lawsuits about not meeting advertised promises about “new Siri”. Their first try didn’t work in iOS 26. They were aiming for 15 to 18 months to get the API working/tested. Let’s see what happens in another year or two.
Also Apple won’t be the only one in this predicament. WhatsApp is already having the same problems with DMA.

3·9 days agoMany of these facilities are using evaporation coolers. Which means the water just evaporates. And that ends up raining into the ocean later.
They’re going to cheap out in whatever way they can. Using a different cooling system, or using non-potable water isn’t going to be done voluntarily.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI Could Use as Much Water as 1.3 Billion People by 2030, U.N. Report WarnsEnglish
2·14 days agoI doubt this. Technology is continually improving. Computers get faster and run cooler every day. HVAC systems continue to improve efficiency as well. By 2030 who knows if AI as we currently know it will still be around. Maybe we will have switched to light-based circuitry by then as well.

Until they get sued. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Just wasting your tax dollars.
