Isn’t it just a small stipend? Nothing you could live on, even if houses were burning down 40 hours a week.

World News@lemmy.world•Europe set 2030 as a date to dismantle its reliance on US financial infrastructure like Visa/Mastercard payments; it's happening far quicker.English
16·9 days agoThat sounds like a nightmare tbh.
I used to use that kind of thing, and it was nice until I needed to carry a lever tumbler lock key and some other keys that were abnormally shaped.
According to my friend who used to work with that stuff, the bigger “problem” is mostly with regulations and balancing the risks; the damage potential of an aircraft accident (loss of life, brand reputation, recalls, etc) is exponentially more expensive than however much you’d save in production costs. Closed-loop recycling is usually the focus instead. But it would of course be cool.
At least that’s kinda Airbuses viewpoint on it. Boeing on the other hand might be fine with delivering dodgy stuff and bribing away any possible fines ;)
There are different grades btw, recycled aluminum isn’t used for most aviation or military stuff in general due to regulations on purity and such. But I guess that’s a positive for the world regardless.

4·17 days agoWhat 153./8? You mean the allocated 153.66.0.0/15? But yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised, they probably don’t care about abuse reports and it’s more difficult to pinpoint a specific customer due to CGNAT.
At least they provide a nice list of ranges you could block.
Exactly. The Swedish government or something did some study recently to determine if we’d be able to be self-sufficient under a longer time if we needed to be, as we currently have a lot of food imports. The conclusion was “yes, but there won’t be as much food diversity”.
However, they completely ignored the fact that we only have a ~90 days strategic reserve of oil, and that basically all the machining used for farming runs on diesel. And there’s currently no goals to change that.
If we can’t import or refine diesel anymore, we will starve.

Technology@lemmy.world•Cyberattack on vehicle breathalyzer company leaves drivers stranded across the USEnglish
3·22 days agoCan you imagine if they put a camera inside the vehicle?
There are already cameras inside most new cars, but the purpose is to see if you’re nodding off when driving and such. It’s a good thing to keep unsafe drivers off the road. The bad thing is the lack of privacy regulation.
Are you legally allowed to go around with an ice pick? Be smarter to avoid getting yourself into trouble.

News@lemmy.world•US citizens: Trump had no ‘backup’ plan to help them leave Middle East after Iran strike
2·27 days agoUS citizens can’t be denied entry. But everyone knows he doesn’t care about that piece of paper called “the constitution”.
Nah, macOS isn’t great, but it’s nowhere near as bad as Windows. You can at least use Homebrew etc without needing to get permissions to install WSL2 and such.

30·1 month agoA reasonable person would have forked the repo and maintained the project themselves, or used something else. I’m also deathly allergic to LLM code, but I don’t come into someone else’s free project and tell them how they should live their life.
But I agree that it was bad style to remove the co-author attribute. He should have just said “yeah, I slop, so what?”

People Twitter@sh.itjust.works•Yep, young people on their phones are definitely the problem. Not dangerous drivers that kill thousands of people (mainly other drivers) each year.
1·1 month agoPedestrians don’t always have the right of way, but the majority of drivers don’t want to kill pedestrians, and so most will still yield… Isn’t that why jaywalking is a crime in the US?
Sweden law says that cars are required to stop for people at the zebra crossings (övergångsställe), but at passageways without zebra (gångpassage example) it’s the pedestrians who shall yield to cars. Basically, a passageway is to be considered as a part of the roadway (you’re not supposed to run out into traffic), whereas a zebra crossing is a legal extension of the sidewalks (cars supposed to yield to people on sidewalks).
However, way too many pedestrians don’t understand the difference. In practical terms it shouldn’t make a huge difference, because you should always reduce your speed and be alert when nearing any kinds of crossings, and we usually have speed bumps directly before many passages… but still.
If someone collides with you at a zebra walk, they’re almost always losing their license, and maybe a couple years in prison if you got badly injured. But if you walk out into a non-zebra passage and a car doesn’t see you in time, you can actually get fined if the police are feeling cheeky, as you didn’t yield to the car/your behavior thus caused the accident.
So no, pedestrians are definitely not menaces. But if we want to continue to reduce traffic injuries, it’d be nice if both groups were a bit more concentrated and respectful.

How do you know that? Have you asked someone who was shot how much pain they were in? The state shouldn’t be allowed to execute their problems.
