It’s because companies aren’t run by Joe Business anymore, who founded the company and has been in the Business business for three generations. It’s a hedge fund now and the 40 layers of middle management just need the line to go up. Then they get a bonus and a pat on the back for crushing their KPIs.
Anecdotally, I’ve noticed the same thing, but I think it might have something to do with the type of gatekeeping and “well akshually” apparent in the original post.

I always thought Debian stable was basically just for the ISS
It’s not for everybody and it’s certainly not nuanced or pointed humor at all, but it’s funny and it holds up.

As far as I can tell, the first thing you have to do as an Arch user is convince yourself that you’re smarter than the package maintainer.
I recently decided to set up CachyOS after a long break from Linux. I was kind of astounded at the experience of using an Arch-derivative. I went back to Debian the same day. Sometimes shit just works fine even though it worked fine 20 years ago.
City Lights is a great example of this but it is ALSO a great example of the opposite of this, specifically with all the jokes where drunk driving is the punchline
