Technology@lemmy.world•Are we finally getting small phones again?English
2·1 day agoI get that. I was weighing the Keyphone, Sidephone and Clicks Communicator. I’d have maybe gone with the Clicks but I waited too long and the price jumped up quite a bit.
I liked the Sidephone but the battery was smaller and non-replaceable, no headphone jack and no eSIM.
For me, since I was craving the phone style of my youth, the Keyphone was the clear winner but it’s just nice to see these alternative phone types in the market.

Technology@lemmy.world•Are we finally getting small phones again?English
2·1 day agoIt’s not for everyone but I’ve switched to a Keyphone Hybrid. It has a removable battery, headphone jack, physical keyboard and de-googled OS.
It’s a “dumb phone” but they’re continuing to develop for it and are responsive to feedback. I love it because it’s the size of an iPhone Mini and it does what I need it to do without the distractions.
I have my old smartphone still that I use around the house or on WiFi similar to how many use a full size tablet.
I haven’t checked yet but this sounds like vet wrap or coban.
Edit: seems similar but vet wrap/coban isn’t glossy, more fabric-y.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google Will Turn Off Search for Schools That Reject A.IEnglish
12·4 days agoMight also be an attempt to keep their Search numbers up. I saw an article recently that AI is hurting Google Search because of the lack of click through due to AI summaries.
By packaging them together they get to boost both options through a semi-captive audience.

News@lemmy.world•McDonald's must face lawsuit over McRib, US judge rules
5·5 days agoIt’s all theater and distraction. Coconut milk has been around an awful long time with no issue. Same with milk of magnesia.
The dairy industry only started caring when the term milk started getting used for viable alternatives to dairy milk. Industrial lobbying is all about protecting market share and that’s it.

13·6 days agoThis sounds a bit like people demanding that almond milk should be called “nut juice”.
You mean America’s dairy farmers?

4·6 days agoOh for sure, and then those areas get devastated even more when the Walmarts close because they decided they don’t do enough business.
There was enough there to run everyone else out but once that’s done Walmart might just shutdown and move on leaving people in those areas in the lurch.

2·6 days agoDon’t get out in the country much?
I do. That’s how I’m familiar with Dollar General since they target a lot more rural, whereas Dollar Tree seems to go after low income irban more often.
Of course they’ve stomped thousands of such stores out of business, but there are plenty of DGs down here where there was nothing before.
And there won’t be, because they are anti-competitive and actively work to make sure that won’t happen.
Thanks for replying though, I remember your username and that I opted not to block you the last time you commented some nonsense in reply to me. Fixing that now.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Cracker Jill? This is a real product by the way, I didn't name it.
3·7 days agoThe link is to the Wikipedia article. Lotta multi-syllable words in there, just ask someone to read and explain it to you.
Ah, gotcha! I was worried for a second that I made a poor choice.
have an ASUS PN51 with the Ryzen 5 in it running Ubuntuwith docker containers for each appliance.
Why Intel mini PCs? I run an AMD mini PC that seems to work great but I don’t ask much of it yet.

26·8 days agoThey’re called Americans and it’s why the American penal system is about punishment rather than rehabilitation.
Oh and don’t forget the for profit motive of the American penal system too. How else will they maintain slavery and turn locking humans in cages into a profitable business.

News@lemmy.world•New Evidence Allegedly Ties Trump to 11 Sexual Assaults Related to Epstein
3·11 days agoWhatever, I’m not going to argue with you about this anymore. You can say adjudicated or liable or guilty, just don’t say convicted because has has yet to face criminal charges. The dozens of victims spanning decades have yet to see justice and see this monster put on trial for his actual crimes of rape and sexual abuse.
Those people he hurt are owed justice which is why I said he hasn’t been convicted yet.

3·11 days agoAnd that’s what the jury found when it convicted Trump
Might want to work on your reading comprehension. I have no doubt Trump raped E. Jean Carol, but what conviction? What criminal trial has Trump faced for any of his sex crimes?
Sorry you decided you feel like you had to act like an ass too. Seems to be a real problem with Americans these days.
You should pick better role models.

I’m not saying that you’re “wrong”, but the idea of giving the benefit of the doubt to a piece of technology in service of a corporation is, as the saying goes, bonkers.
