I’ve only read the first Mistborn book so far but Sanderson had absolutely no prose in his writing. I don’t want to be too critical since that was one of his first books two decades ago, but it felt like I was reading something written by a high schooler. However, the actual story and plot were amazing. I’m definitely going to continue reading his books with the hope that he doesn’t continue to write “Vin rolled her eyes” 300 more times. His magic system is really well thought out and the characters are very believable and likeable. King on the other hand, is kind of the exact opposite. His prose is top notch but he usually writes about fuck all. I’m currently on the final Dark Tower book and it’s a slog to get through. I liked most of the previous books in the series so I’m determined to finish it, but you can tell he just makes shit up as he goes. I think King excels with his short stories, even the best Dark Tower book in my opinion is a sort of spin off from the rest. Like I said, I’ll gladly keep reading through Sanderson’s works for now but I really hope he learns to become engaging with his actual words on the paper.
