I’d say they’re the same thing colloquially for many (physical currency), though your point is correct.

If my kid wanted a quid to go on a ride I might say ‘I’ve no cash on me’ or ‘I’ve no money on me’, even if I had my bank card, which is money by the correct definition.

I don’t know how you can go wrong. You scan the thing, set it down, repeat. Press pay, scan your card, done.
