Interesting the amount of comments which try to derail or troll the discussion on an enirely positive subject. The only disadvantage I could see is that it means less money for the fossil industry and car industry. But isn’t that a win?

Once your car has been burned down for the third time, you start to consider whether a bike might just be a more cost-effective alternative.
I get it’s a joke, but people who live in Paris proper have some of the lowest car ownership rate, and it’s been diminishing still: 46% in 1990 to 34% in 2019, as opposed to more than 80% for the whole country

To be fair, non-Parisian French also hate them. I will always remember my first trip to Paris, I was like 17, never really been to a big city before. I stepped out of Gare de l’Est, completely overwhelmed, so I asked an old lady who was walking her dog where the bus stop I was looking for was. Without missing a beat, she kindly told me to fuck off. Delightful.
Although in her defence, they must have 1000s of scams to dodge on a daily basis so the fuck off approach is probably their default.
But still, even the French hate the French, especially if they’re from Paris.

It was an absolute nightmare in the 00s. Now it’s just “not great”. That’s a huge improvement
I first visited Paris in …1992? Since 2010 I’ve been back about 15 times.
And Paris is about 15 times better. Granted, I live in NL, so bikes are second nature to me.
