Why not buy some robot boats and drones in Japan?
- faster “delivery”
- doesn’t take resources away from Europe front
- building trade relations with Japan
- doesn’t disturb Assad
- manufacturer country has experience with shipyard bombing
I thought “gee their sea route looks weird down there…”
then zoomed right into Saddam Hussein.
Congrats, you found him quicker than the entire 700bn US military apparatus
The little-known Strait of Hussein.
Really, though … some country with aging naval ships should donate a few small, fast ships to Ukraine, right where they are, already in the open ocean.
Then allow the new Ukrainian Navy to go around harassing oil and military facilities all over the entire Russian Arctic and Pacific coastlines with hit-and-run strikes and sneaky drones.
Russia would have to devote a massive amount of manpower and materiel to defending their ports and other coastal facilities, which will all be taken away from what they can send to the front lines in Ukraine. (Or else they’ll have to accept huge military and economic losses as poorly defended ports and coastal facilities keep getting blown up.)

“Sailors, your service contracts are being transferred. We will now teach the crew the Ukrainian National Anthem.”
That takes too long, just sing one you know but say Ukraine instead of the original country name if it’s in the words.
Nah, don’t transfer the sailors, of course. Just spend a few months having them train the new Ukrainian crew how to operate the ship. (And also re-equipping the ship for its new mission – modern drone/cruise missile launchers, stealth/electronic warfare upgrades, missile defenses for survivability, speed upgrades if possible, etc.)
They could use those disguised drone containers but just on random container ships. Now Russia has to investigate every container ship.
Japan sinks all of them out of habit.
“We’re so sorry, we saw Cyrillic on the sides and our battleships starting firing broadsides. I don’t even know where our battleships came from, honestly.”
It’s like white blood cells and shingles. Once the navy gets the scent of the Baltic fleet, it just sics right on it.
Stealth journey would take too much time for this operation to be successful.
