The year has been devastating. But the power of ordinary people has begun to turn things around, and MAGA is fracturing and flailing. 2026 has the potential to be the year the strength of the resistance becomes unstoppable, building on the uprisings that blossomed during the first year of Trump 2.0 — or it could be the year that authoritarianism is fully entrenched in the United States. The choices millions of Americans will make in the coming months will make the difference.

We will see if Churchill’s “You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing, after they have tried everything else.” still holds water.

I think it’s going to be up to the whole world to finally wake up and acknowledge the entire system is fucked. It’s not even broken really, it’s just working as intended.

Systems around the world have always favored the wealthy by stacking the decks against some population of people. The thing is, as more people became wealthy, the existing wealthy refused to give up a penny and instead of the newer wealth trying to keep the door open for more people to come in behind them, they joined the wealth hoarders to keep more people out.

The level of greed has become so absurd that they’ve decided instead of any of them potentially losing a penny to something like taxes or decreasing the number of people the decks are stacked against, they would rather dump their hoarded wealth into figuring out how to expand the number of people it’s stacked against. Basically, we have no choice but to sacrifice them (the rest of the world) to protect our status and wealth.

God knows if they actually had to compete for resources and live by their own rules, they would not fare well, and nobody has ever expected them to make that kind of sacrifice. But it’s like if they controlled 90% of the oxygen in a room, they would literally justify letting everyone else die before negotiating down to something like 85%.

It’s not only absurd it’s just fucking dumb and unsustainable. You have to know people are going to turn on you… Unless you can successfully replace the plebs of society with robots! That’s the ticket.

Rationality and compromise are not their strong suits, hence the constant deepthroating of idiot tech billionaires in a very poor attempt to win the “AI” race and fully automate all the jobs they depend on other people to do for them.

There has to be a point where people look in the mirror and realise whatever qualms they have against going out into the street doesn’t hold up vs the future that’s coming for them personally, if they don’t try something.

Thanks, good article pointing out where gradual but substantial shifts have been happening. Let’s keep the pressure on, get more bold leaders elected, build community power.
